WHERE TO NEXT?

Good morning Traveler,

"Where can we go that's warm and sunny?"

I'm getting asked that question daily from clients and friends. Most of them live in the upper half of the USA, so it's understandable they feel that way during the depths of winter.

I live in New England. At this time of year we expect cold temps and snow. Last Friday our kids had a "snow" day but there was no snow. There was ice and freezing rain. Couple that with lack of sunshine and I am done with this weather!

Next step - take action.

Jessie and I bought tickets to Miami for next weekend. Just having it on my calendar and knowing that I will be in warmth and ☀️ soon is helping me cope with the grey days.

We will see friends, we will eat lots of Latin foods. I've made reservations at a favorite taco place, a highly recommended Tel Avivian restaurant, a cool rooftop bar and Jessie wants us to wake early one day and go for a cold plunge in the ocean. I'm up for it. We're also going to the Tulum-like beach bar at the 1 Hotel. We may do beach yoga, go to a salsa bar and ride bikes along the beach. And I'll squeeze in some hotel site visits. I also happened upon something I've never heard of in Miami (love it when this happens) and I'm hopeful we'll be able to check it out. Of course I'll share it with you if it's a worthy outing.

I can't wait!

I know many of you feel similarly. The results from our poll on whether you are dreaming of warmth and sunshine or snow was overwhelmingly warmth and sunshine!

As I've been looking at availability, I know my favorite hotels in Costa Rica are full for spring break season, as are many other places. But I've been pleasantly surprised with availability (even if there are just 2 rooms left - that's often all my clients need) in other warm destinations. Including Antigua, which is where this week's Highlight is located. It is a great destination for families of all ages! With so many activities and adventures included. They say it's "effortless island luxury." Sign me up!

For those of you who may be just trying to make it through the winter weather - plan an adventure! Whether it's a spontaneous trip next weekend or further out for summer, it will give you something to look forward to!

CURTAIN BLUFF

You know from above that I am in a "dreaming of warm weather" phase.

So this week I decided to highlight a favorite family resort in the Caribbean.

Curtain Bluff

It is an "everything-included" resort.

What does that mean?

All gourmet meals and beverages

All watersports activities including

twice daily snorkeling trips to Cades Reef

scuba diving (for certified divers*)

waterskiing, wake-boarding

kayaking, windsurfing, Hobie-cats

And land based activities including yoga, squash, bocce, shuffleboard, basketball and

tennis on their four lit, championship hard courts.

If interested in going off property, Antigua has some great hikes and

beautiful beaches to explore.

Spa services are extra, and available in their 5,000 square foot spa with views out to the sea.

They also have the most extensive wine cellar in the Caribbean.

What I also love about it is its size.

Only 72 rooms.

Big enough for lots of amenities but cozy enough to feel exclusive.

The vibe is old school Caribbean where you feel like a house guest and

get a sense of belonging.

You don't have to take your wallet out once. Even gratuities are included.

That is a relaxing vacation!

And when I book it for you,

you get the extra perks - the best room in your category,

room upgrades and early check in/late check out if available,

resort credit and little extras from me.

You can check availability yourself and book it through my online booking platform

HERE.

Or send me a note.

* if you or your kids want to get certified, it's an ideal place! They offer the open water dive portion of the PADI certification for a cost of $450 per person.

🌟 Our clients recently traveled to Mexico and spent a few nights at the Four Seasons Mexico City.

Why is the Four Seasons Mexico City so special?

  • The hotel is a hacienda style quiet retreat in the center of bustling Mexico City. Located on the main avenue, Paseo de la Reforma, guests are steps away from restaurants, shopping and sights
  • The rooftop pool is a tranquil resting place after a day out in the city
  • The hotel bar, Fifty Mils, has been named one the world’s Top 50 bars. An expert mixologist uses local ingredients for specialty cocktails, such as the Fénix (with toast infused Ketel One, honey and bacon syrup that is served on fire or the Bugs Bunny that includes fresh carrot juice

Do as much or as little as you like:

  • Book a facial or massage at the spa that uses chocolate and mezcal in its treatments
  • Explore the culture and history through a visit Frida Kahlo's Casa Azul or the anthropology museum
  • Take a taco tour where you will be introduced to the best secret spots in the city

‼️ Don’t miss…the stunning view from a hot air balloon ride over the Teotihuacán pyramids.

As with other luxury hotels, when I book it for you, you get the extra perks - the best room in your category, room upgrades and early check in/late check out if available, hotel credit (I suggest using it for specialty cocktails and guacamole at Fifty Mils) and little extras from me.

In the words of AFAR magazine...

“Proximity to the park offers respite from some of the noisier parts of the city, as does the hotel's own expansive courtyard. Citrus trees and other greenery, tended by the same gardener since the hotel opened, radiate from a central fountain, while sculptures by Mexican artist José Luis Cuevas add even more atmosphere to the peaceful setting.”
