THE GATEWAY TO EXTRAORDINARY POSSIBILITIES
WUSD Announces Selection of New Administrators
Dear WUSD Staff, Parents and Community Members,

At the March 9, 2017 regularly scheduled Board of Education Meeting, the Washington Unified School District (WUSD) Trustees approved the selection of two administrators to the positions of Director of Early Childhood Education and Principal for the newly restructured Washington Middle College High School (WMCHS).

Kendra Reynolds has been selected as the new Director of Early Childhood Education overseeing early education and child development efforts district-wide. Mrs. Reynolds has served as the Principal of Southport Elementary School for eight years bringing about unprecedented levels of success, student achievement and the development of a nurturing campus culture.

Mrs. Reynolds is a West Sacramento native, a product of our public schools and a beacon of what makes WUSD The Gateway to Extraordinary Possibilities. She has been a tremendous and visionary leader at Southport and for the entire District. Her impact has made a difference in generations of West Sacramento students having served WUSD for 32 years as a kindergarten teacher, assistant principal, and school principal.  Her service included the opening of the Southport Elementary School.

Her commitment to this district and the broader community are unmatched and although her time with Southport Elementary is winding down, her influence will always to be a foundation for the school’s ongoing success.

Mrs. Reynolds is excited to embrace this new chapter in her career charged with addressing the needs of our youngest learners. The District is looking forward to working closely with Mrs. Reynolds in this new role and developing new innovative options to foster student success.

Sean O’Neil will serve as the new Principal for the Washington Middle College High School (WMCHS) — a new innovative dependent charter school in WUSD. Mr. O’Neil is currently employed by WUSD as an Assistant Principal at River City High School. He has extensive professional experience as an educator in theatre and performing arts, education technology as well as in depth knowledge of the process involved in the creation and management of a media and technology academy. Sean has an outstanding reputation for being an effective communicator and working collaboratively across all levels in the community to ensure students are supported and college and career ready.

The WMCHS replaces the former West Sacramento Early College Prep program with one structured on the Middle College National Consortium Design Principles with possible career pathways available to all students. The school is designed to prepare all students, especially those who are at-risk and underserved for success in college, leading to professional careers through a blended high school and college curriculum.

Mrs. Reynolds will begin her new role on July 1, 2017.  Mr. O’Neil will begin his new role on or about March 20, 2017.

The District will soon begin the process of seeking qualified applicants to fill the positions of Principal at Southport Elementary School, Assistant Principal at River City High School and Principal at Elkhorn Village Elementary School.
