Hello. My name is Mark Love. I’m an artist, woodworker, and Wimberley resident since 1996. I'm pleased to serve as the 2023 Wimberley Valley Art League president. My wife Alyssa and I work full-time creating art in our little Rainbow Ranch studio.
We love the Art League. We’ve treasured the kinship, education, and inspiration it has given us through the years. And we’re both excited about all the good stuff WVAL has planned in 2023.

APRIL AT THE GALLERY
It's our annual Student Show, a special gallery exhibit hosted by the art league featuring artwork created by Wimberley-area students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Student artists whose work has been selected by their campus art teacher have the opportunity to participate in a gallery show. Special funding from the Civic Club and Lion's Club makes it possible for us to frame their work. Each of these young artists is encouraged to create an artist statement for display alongside their art in the show.
We invite you to attend the opening reception of this special exhibit Thursday, April 6, 5:00 - 7:00. It is a wonderful opportunity to participate with young artists, art teachers, families, friends, and community members in vibrant conversations about art and creativity. We hope to see you there!

ARTS FEST 2023
Arts Fest, April 29 - April 30 at The Water’s Point, is our BIGGEST annual outdoor festival featuring 100+ artists from throughout the United States.
This popular event includes a great car show on Saturday. Both days visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy live music and a variety of food trucks. Oh, and did we mention the amazing art?!
We hope you will plan to participate as a volunteer or attendee. Details to follow, but mark your calendar today - and invite a friend!

JIM MCDONALD WORKSHOP
Friday, March 10th and Saturday, March 11th
9:00 am - 4:00 pm
If you would like to advance your painting skills register now for Painting The Essence of the Landscape, a two-day Jim McDonald oil-painting workshop. Jim will discuss what 'essence of a landscape' means. He will provide several demonstrations using a brush and a palette knife to illustrate his point. As participants work on their own paintings, Jim will provide individual instruction and guidance.

JURIED GALLERY SHOW
Interested in having your artwork on exhibit? Enter our next juried gallery show with juror Tom Jean Webb. Jury Day is Tuesday, Feb 14 from 8:00 am - 11:00 am. at our gallery in the Wimberley Community Center. The exhibit runs February 15 to April 3.

Collaborative
Framing
In our last newsletter Douglas Stewart shared his wish to collaborate using his talent for creating custom frames. Fellow member Rochelle Fainstein took him up on that offer. Douglas welcomed Ro into his woodworking studio where they worked together discussing materials, aesthetic, measurements and stain selections. Within two weeks the frame was finished; Ro has shared that she is thrilled with the results.

Plein Air
Painting Group
Join other artists each Friday as we ‘Plein Air’ paint in and around Wimberley. We meet early and paint for a few hours.
It’s a great way to get inspired by the beauty of our community and all that it has to offer. No pressure or critique (unless you ask for it).
Getting outdoors and painting something different is a great way to jump-start your creativity.
