February Club Update
Tory's Update

You guys - I have SO MUCH GOOD NEWS!

First and foremost, I’m thrilled to share that the High Country T-Bar has been permitted, approved, and has successfully run – we’re in business!

The plan is to celebrate with a ribbon cutting tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 8:15am – so jump on that first chair from the base and come up and high five all the amazing folks who have been committed to seeing this project through. We couldn’t be more excited or grateful to have a high elevation surface lift at Waterville – yahoo and big congratulations to the mountain staff for getting across the finish line on this project.

Secondly - Thank you all SO MUCH for your enthusiasm and energy at the 1 st Annual Winter Fiesta on Saturday night. If that’s how the BBTS families show up when it’s a “tough weekend from a scheduling perspective” I can’t imagine what the top gear of this club looks like! We are so, so, so happy and grateful to you for coming out, having a blast, and supporting our club through your presence, donations, the raffle, auction, and silent auction. Thank you, thank you!

And, now I have not one, not two, but THREE reasons to go skiing (thanks Tom Gross)! Can’t wait to shred it up with high bidders JP, Jim, and Holly/Kara! In retrospect, it would have been extremely wise of me to bid on one of those tuning packages for all my new ski dates….really, really regretting not thinking of that on Saturday!

And don’t take a breath yet, though – we’re lined up with a bunch of new snow for the Rosemary Bowl this weekend, and the U10 Skills day on Sunday. As someone who hangs pretty close to home base this season, it’s so fun to see the different groups come and go through the season – feeling the different types of energy in the lodge for each event and with each different group is such a cool insight into the pressure and excitement the kids feel. I’m sure our U10s are going to be amazing, and the snow looks great for our Rosemary Bowl crew. Big cheers for the Freestyle B kids who are jumping up to the A level for this weekend’s event – can’t wait to watch! Coming up quickly after this weekend, we’ve got school vacation week(s), where we hope we’ll see most of you for midweek training. Coaches have all sent out plans and schedules for the week, I believe. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t put another plug out there for our 80s party at Legends…start digging in your closets for those leg warmers and get your crimping irons ready!

Lastly, we do have a couple (literally, just a couple) spots left in our Champs Camp March 4-6, which I’ll be running and coaching (reasons #4, 5 and 6 to go skiing – this job rules!) Champs Camp is aimed at U12s and U14s as a quick, focused training block heading into U12/14 State Championships which are the 8-10 th of March. Registration link is below.

Thanks, as always, for all you do and give to make our club amazing. This is an incredible place to spend a winter, and I appreciate you all and your kids so much!

Meet the Coaches:
Brian Hanseth U12

Brian grew up in Portland, Oregon and fell in love with skiing because of his father George, who till this day can’t get enough and even skied 93 days last year at the age of 74!

Brian didn’t start ski racing until age 13 (which he likes to remind some of his younger athletes that there is plenty of time to catch the lead dogs of today if they work hard enough). Once he did get full buy in from (Mom), Brian attended Mt. Hood Academy in high school where he won the Northwest Cup and placed 2 nd in the Junior Olympic Downhill for J1’s, (U19). He took a post grad year at Mt. Bachelor Ski Education Foundation while a part of the U.S. Western Region Developmental Team. Brian was captain of the Colby College Ski Team and raced at U.S. Nationals in the Downhill and the Super G.

Brian and his wife Dana live in Hingham, Massachusetts with their son Hunter (9) and daughter Scarlet (7). Both are BBTS kids and are loving every minute of it! Brian is a Financial Advisor at Merrill Lynch in Downtown Boston and Dana teaches 3 rd grade in the Hingham Public School system. They just welcomed the 5 th member to their family, their 3 month old Golden Retriever named Powder!  (He is the color of snow).

Outside of skiing, Brian plays golf, mountain bikes and chases his kids around the football and soccer fields. He also enjoys a neighborhood poker game from time to time. Fun fact: although he rarely wins the neighborhood game, he somehow made his way to the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas in 2005.
