A few words from elementary school:
How do you measure spiritual formation? That is a question I have been discussing with fellow school administrators and my colleagues here at West Valley. Spiritual formation is one domain in our WVCS Expected Student Outcomes (ESOs) list. Elementary teachers recently revisited the ESOs in a teachers’ meeting. Each teacher chose one ESO to target with their class this quarter to support students’ spiritual growth. While spiritual growth is hard to measure, I see evidence it is happening across campus. In the past few weeks, I have noticed WVCS students meeting our ESOs in many ways:
· Students using self-control in challenging situations
· Kindergartners recognizing when others are leading the Warrior Way
· A third grader respectfully holding the door open for a staff member
· Fourth graders sharing their testimony in Chapel
· Students leading Chapel worship time
· Countless students implementing stewardship principles by picking up litter
· Students serving in a variety of capacities on and off campus
While spiritual formation is the work of the Holy Spirit in us, there are intentional steps we can and do take to guide growth. As we enter this Christmas season, I challenge you to think about your child's spiritual goals. Perhaps the WVCS Spiritual Formation ESOs below would give you some ideas as you intentionally support your child in his/her spiritual growth.
May your Christmas season be blessed by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords Who is our Prince of Peace! (Isaiah 9:6)
Blessings,
