Get Your Feet Wet with Monitoring in May

Greetings Watershed Stewards,

As we enter the second half of May, you'll find our schedule heavy with (M)onitoring and (R)estoration events.

If you've been hesitant to get involved with our monitoring projects, now is a great time to learn about the different ways WVP collects data and works with our partners to use monitoring to assess the health of our streams and rivers. There will be chances to get hands-on training in monitoring techniques, as well as guidance for those who wish to become independent monitors.

On the restoration side of things, the mild winter has left us challenged with a multitude of invasive plants in need of removal. Volunteer Leaders Margaret Rhynard and Dave LeBrun have taken on the challenge and will be leading three upcoming events: tomorrow 5/18/23, Tue. 5/23/23 & Tue. 5/30/23. Learn how to properly identify and remove Garlic Mustard and Dame's Rocket with them.

I would encourage Stewards who haven't participated in a Rain Barrel Workshop to check out the (S)upplemental offerings below, especially 6/1/23 & 6/11/23, hosted by Cleveland Metroparks Naturalist Peter Frank.

We look forward to seeing you at an event soon!

Gratefully,

Sara Corrigan

Watershed Volunteer Program Coordinator
