May 3, 2023

Greetings Watershed Stewards,

As we move into May, our WVP schedule kicks off with two drop-in style tree planting events. Both events offer a chance to spend as much or as little time as you like planting trees. The first is tomorrow, and continues some of the great work that we've already started in Washington Reservation. The second continues efforts from planting last fall at the former Euclid Middle School site in Euclid Creek Reservation. Feel free to drop by if you have some time this Thursday, May 4th and Friday, May 5th. We also have a newly posted opportunity for tree care with Volunteer Steward Leaders Chris Wolf and Dan Leamon on Friday, May 12th.

We have three opportunities to learn about and engage in monitoring coming up. See event details here and below and sign up in Volgistics! Those of you who are interested in doing independent monitoring projects should find the talks helpful.

If you're looking to include more independent volunteer monitoring work in your Watershed Journey, you should download the iNaturalist application to your smart device. We can help set up monitoring projects, just send us an email to get started.

We look forward to seeing you at an event soon!

Gratefully,

Sara Corrigan

Watershed Volunteer Program Coordinator

We would like to congratulate WVP Steward Clark Button on receiving the David F. Leahy Award for Volunteer Excellence from Greater Cleveland Volunteers. Clark was acknowledged for taking volunteerism to heart in over 40 organizations throughout the community.

When notified of this recognition Clark shared the following: "I appreciate the volunteer opportunities I’ve experienced and want to thank those organizations I’ve worked with. I’m also grateful to my fellow volunteers making my experiences enjoyable. I tell people I’ve done everything from being an instant replay cameraman at the NCAA Fencing Championships to a production assistant at the World Yo-yo Contest! Where else but Cleveland?"

We are honored to have Clark in the Watershed Volunteer Program and are pleased to share a small part of his volunteer story with all of you. Read more here.
