WVP Enews: Celebrate Trees

Hello, Watershed Friends!

July is a treemendous month to celebrate trees around Northeast Ohio. The 225^th anniversary of the founding of Cleveland by Moses Cleaveland is on July 22. For this celebration, there are several events planned.

Tue, July 13 @ 6:30 p.m. | Doug Tallamy will virtually introduce us to his new book The Nature of Oaks. This is especially relevant to the celebration of trees since a majority of the Moses Cleaveland Trees and the Liberty Row Trees are oak trees. | Register with our partners here

Sat, July 17 @ 9 a.m. and Tue, July 27 @ 5:30 p.m. | Tour Moses Cleaveland Trees in Lake View Cemetery with Margeaux Apple of Holden Forests and Gardens and Lake View Cemetery staff. | Register with our partners here

Thu, July 22 @ 4 p.m. | Celebration event co-hosted with the Cuyahoga River AOC and Sustainable Cleveland Forest City Working Group at Forest City Brewery

Additionally, the Early Settlers Association has several events planned for the occasion

Thank you for celebrating trees with us. Take good care of yourself and the trees this month...hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. See you in the water soon.

Be Well,

Lisa Meranti

Watershed Volunteer Program Coordinator

P.S. We plan to plant some trees in the fall and looking for a WVP part-time paid crew member to help with that and more. Join the WVP crew later this summer and through year end. See the jobs section to apply or share.

WVP Happenings

Did you know that WVP stewards monitor water quality throughout NEO watersheds in various ways? We invite you to check out this work on the WVP water quality monitoring webpage (link below).

While you are there, view the water quality chemical monitoring intro video that Bre and Lisa filmed in the fall. This video provides an overview of four ways to test phosphate concentrations and other ways to be eyes on NEO waterways.

Special thanks to all the community scientists who help with chemical, biological, and habitat monitoring efforts of NEO watersheds!
