Hello Watershed Volunteers,
We hope you are having a treemendous fall. Trees play an important role in creating healthy watersheds. Trees create shade that help cool streams. This tree cover keeps the stream temperature “just right” for the creatures living there. Among many other benefits, trees are also essential for bank stabilization and nutrient filtering. This month, WVP offered numerous ways to get involved with planting and learning more about trees! Please check the WVP calendar to see our upcoming events. Thank you for everything you do to protect our watersheds. You are unbe-leaf-able!

Rocky River Watershed Council Seeks New Board Members
Passionate about the environment and looking for new ways to get involved? The Rocky River Watershed Council (RRWC), an all-volunteer advocacy group, is seeking new board members. The RRWC is dedicated to improving the watershed of the Rocky River and its tributaries through public education, watershed planning, and cooperation among stakeholders. The Council is governed by a 15-member Board of Directors, elected to two year terms at the Annual Meeting in January.
No experience necessary, but WVP volunteers may be particularly suited. Board members help coordinate events like tree plantings, stream-cleanups, and must attend monthly business meetings.

Watershed Stories: Decade of Restoration
|
|
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has defined 2021-2030 as the Decade of Ecosystem Restoration. This initiative aims to prevent and reverse the degradation of ecosystems across the world. In order to successfully restore the ecosystems worldwide, people from all levels of government, private sector, educators, and civil society must work together to develop long-lasting solutions.
WVP volunteers participate in a variety of restoration projects, including invasive species removal, native plantings, and tree care. These projects are helping to prevent further ecosystem degradation and are building resilience against climate change.
