Greetings Watershed Stewards,
I’m Elizabeth Hiser and I have joined the Cleveland Metroparks Natural Resources team as the Stream Restoration Ecologist. Many of you may know me as the former Euclid Creek Watershed Program Manager housed out of Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District or through my role as an Instructor for the Northeast Ohio Master Rain Gardener Program. Like most of you, I have also spent plenty of time as a WVP volunteer and I am sure I have gotten muddy with many of you pulling invasive plants, maintaining green infrastructure, and planting native vegetation. I am so excited to join the Cleveland Metroparks and WVP team as a very proud advocate for this wonderful program.
I come to Cleveland Metroparks with nineteen years of experience as a Watershed and Stormwater professional where I led a wide range of projects, the most significant being a $260,000 Ohio EPA 319 design-build stream and wetland restoration project in Willoughby Hills, Lake County Ohio. Prior to joining the Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District, I was an Environmental Scientist with Tetra Tech where I provided technical support on projects for the USEPA’s Total Maximum Daily Load and Great Lakes Restoration Initiative programs.
As the Cleveland Metroparks Stream Restoration Ecologist, I will be involved in stream restoration projects and project planning. My hope is to include WVP volunteers in pre-project and post-project monitoring and assistance with restoration efforts where possible. In addition to stream restoration projects and watershed planning I will also be working closely with Lisa on WVP and will have a seat on the Watershed Stewardship Center steering committee.
With April being both Ohio and National Native Plant Month, I am looking forward to seeing many of our native plants start to bloom, tending to my rain gardens, planting some new native plants in my landscape, and getting out with all of you to plant trees in honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day.

Fondly,
Elizabeth Hiser (she/her)

The Headwater Habitat Evaluation Index (HHEI) is a type of stream assessment used to evaluate small streams called primary headwater streams for physical and biological characteristics. We invite you to participate in a WVP-hosted HHEI training course led by EnviroScience Inc.
There are two ways to participate in this training.
-
Register for the May 2 and 4 virtual sessions. WVP volunteers can sign up in Volgistics here and non-WVP volunteers can sign up here.
-
Attend the full training (requires attendance of both virtual sessions and one field training session). The full training is offered for reduced fee of $50 and limited to 16 people. Register here for the full training.
