Weekly Bulletin
September 15, 2021
The social motto is recited at many WWS meetings - committee meetings, the Trustees Council meetings, etc. Amidst the bustle of our lives, work, comings and going, there is a grounding in revisiting this idea time and again - that we are inexorably connected and that we are all treasured parts of the whole.
A Look at the Beginning of the School Year for the Children's Garden
Last week we shared photos from the first day of school for grades 1-12. The Children's Garden classes have a gentler start to the school year with an orientation and a few shorter days. We were able to capture a few moments from each of the classes yesterday morning to share with you today.
Trustee Council News
This new school year marks many new beginnings for our Trustees Council (TC). At last night's TC meeting, the position of Chair was passed from Eric Holdsworth (Alumni Parent) to Vanessa Beckman (Parent G5, G7). A host of new members were also welcomed:

  • Lisa Bechmann (Faculty & Alumni Parent)
  • Carolyn Balk Crouch (Alumni Parent)
  • Michael Danzansky (Parent G7)
  • Maria Monteverde-Jackson (Former Faculty & Parent G10, G12)
  • Marilyn Noguera (Parent G11), Secretary
  • Lelia True, ex officio  (Faculty & Parent G11), term started 7/1/21
  • James Wise (Parent G1, G3), Treasurer
We offer our deepest gratitude to Eric Holdsworth for his leadership as TC Chair for the past 5 years - particularly as we faced so many challenges through the beginning of the pandemic. Our great thanks is also extended to Katalin Gingold, whose term on the TC has ended, and to Jennifer Page and Jennie Rabinowitz, whose terms ended over the summer.

We are thrilled to welcome the new TC members and to welcome Vanessa into her new role as Chair. Thanks to all of the TC members (past and present) for their commitment to the school and willingness to serve our community in this way. You can view the full list of TC members and biographies on our website.

CSA Sign Ups for Biodynamic/Organic Food
(pick up near WWS or a location near you!)
shared by Sunny Kaplan (WWS Alumni Parent)

There are still a few shares available for the CSA! Different options are: school year only (Sept-May), winter/spring season (Dec-May) and summer. Call or email first to confirm availability--once confirmed, registration info is here (a discount is available if you pay with cash/check).

What's the CSA? Spiritual Foods CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) provides biodynamic and organic veggies, fruit, eggs, bread and other seasonal staples, with most of it grown on land leased from the Kimberton Waldorf School in PA! Biodynamics, like Waldorf education, was founded by Rudolf Steiner and is a spiritual-ethical-ecological approach to agriculture, food production and nutrition. Choices for share options include: main share of veggies, fruit & supplements; main share w/out bread; or veggie/fruit only. Please visit the CSA website for more info, costs, and registration forms, or email or call Lakshmi at 301-654-4899 with questions and to check on availability. You can also reach out to Sunny Kaplan, WWS alumni parent and WWS/CSA coordinator.

A New Screen Strong Parent Group is Forming!
from Sarah Vakkur (WWS Parent)

This group will help support parents as we navigate technology with our children. It will also help children socialize without their phones or tech. I joined this national/international group this summer to get additional support raising my teenagers in the pandemic. It is excellent and I am now a local rep for the DC area. If you would like more info see screenstrong.com , and e-mail me at vakkurstudio@me.com with the subject “ScreenStrong”.

Our local group will offer a parent group for sharing information and ideas and also a teen group to offer social opportunities without the use of phones, video games or screens.
