T Blues Society
Founded in 1993, the Connecticut Blues Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Blues music in our state. CTBS is an affiliated member of The Blues Foundation, a worldwide network of 185 affiliates with an international membership in 12 countries.
The CTBS Blues Jam is back!
New time, new location, but the same musical fun! From now until September, the CTBS will be sponsoring a First Thursday Blues Jam at The Chicken Shack at The Farm at Carter Hill in Marlborough CT. The CTBS All-Stars (River City Slim, Phil Caron and Joey Primo) are back as the house band with a different 'guitar star' joining the band each month. The Chicken Shack is a rustic barn setting, with tables indoors and huge side doors that open to a field for outdoor seating, so there are plenty of options for social distancing. Musicians bring your instruments - amps, drums, keyboards and PA are provided. Come out to play with some of the best Blues musicians in CT. The Chicken Shack has great, reasonably priced food, so come hungry. There's also a full bar! Music starts at 6:00 PM, and there's NO COVER! THE FARM AT CARTER HILL is located at 86 East Hampton Road (Route 66) in Marlborough.

We may have some midnight and/or 3am slots available later this year. Email station manager John Ramsey to find out more about this unique and exciting opportunity for the right person.
Qualified candidates will have access to the full WWUH programmer orientation program so no experience is necessary. He/she will also need to attend the monthly WWUH staff meetings (held on Tuesday or Sunday evenings) and do behind the scenes volunteer work from time to time. This is a volunteer position.
After completing this process, we will review the candidate's assets and accomplishments and they will be considered for any open slots in our schedule.

The WWUH Scholarship Fund |

In 2003 WWUH alums Steve Berian, Charles Horwitz and Clark Smidt helped create the WWUH Scholarship Fund to provide an annual grant to a UH student who is either on the station's volunteer Executive Committee or who is in a similar leadership position at the station. The grant amount each year will be one half of the revenue of the preceding year.

The Library Studio in Downtown Middletown Announces ‘Middletown on the Map’
Vibraphonist Jay Hoggard May 10
Middletown— Trevor Davis of The Library Studio, announces that the Hartford Jazz Society and the Middletown Commission on the Arts are collaborating to provide funding, contingent upon Common Council approval, for a concert series entitled ‘Middletown on the Map.’ Both concerts will be free via livestream on the Hartford Jazz Society Facebook Page and will feature artists associated with Middletown. The first concert airs on Monday April 12, 7:00-8:30PM PM, and will present Medusa, an ensemble featuring tap dancer Corey Hutchins and percussionist Jocelyn Pleasant. The second concert will feature world renowned vibraphonist Jay Hoggard and his quartet, streaming live on Monday, May 10, 7:00-8:30PM.
Medusa was founded in 2010 by tap dancer Corey Hutchins and percussionist Jocelyn Pleasant. Both met and performed together at The Artist Collective in Hartford. They wanted to change the way jazz music was both seen and heard. Medusa is a ‘statement band’ that wishes to be heard as they bring the two great American art forms of jazz music and rhythm tap dancing together in a smooth mix of jazz standards and tap dancing at the highest artistic levels. Corey Hutchins has been with the Broadway sensation Riverdance and performed around the world as well as at the White House in 2010. Jocelyn has made her mark in the community and area performance scene over the past 15 years. She continues to teach throughout CT and runs the The Lost Tribe ensemble. Medusa is Corey Hutchins - tap dance, Jocelyn Pleasant - drums/percussion, Michael Carabello - piano, Dave Uhl – bass, Dakota Austin - alto sax, and Nathan Davis – trombone.
Jay Hoggard has long ranked with the greatest vibraphone innovators. Jay’s music is positive, spiritual, uplifting, and happy. He masterfully draws on traditional and contemporary musical vocabulary to develop new direction for the vibraphone. Jay seamlessly blends jazz and gospel roots with African marimba rhythms. His performance repertoire represents the three B’s of the jazz tradition (Blues, Bop and Ballads) with original innovations. Joining Jay Hoggard will be James Weidman on piano, Yoron Israel on drums and Belden Bullock on bass.

Since June 2020, the Hartford Jazz Society has continued to present live jazz by streaming virtual concerts from the Library Studio. This includes their long running Paul Brown Monday Night Bushnell Park concert series and the virtual Monday Night Jazz series on a monthly basis. Their 60 Anniversary Concert and Fundraiser November 13 featured the Steve Turre Sextet. Turre has played with Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Carlos Santana, and Ray Charles. He has been trombonist for the Saturday Night Live band since 1985.

The Musical Club of Hartford
The Musical Club of Hartford is a non-profit organization founded in 1891. Membership is open to performers or to those who simply enjoy classical music, providing a network for musicians from the Greater Hartford area. Club events take place normally on selected Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m, Fall through Spring. The usual location is the sanctuary at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2080 Boulevard, West Hartford, CT (between Ridgewood and Mountain Avenues).
