What excites me most about currently serving as Superintendent is that our Bishops are working hard to build a culture where the leadership serves Jesus by serving our pastors, leaders, churches and fulfilling our mission.
Our churches do not "serve" the denominational structure... the denominational structure should "serve" the churches in fulfilling our mission!
There came a moment this week when I was tempted to take a picture for you that might encourage you. It wasn't a moment of strategic planning or arguing, it was a moment of prayer.
For large chunks of time, we were praying... crying out to God for a fresh anointing of his Holy Spirit upon our churches and leaders.
And in one of these moments, I thought: As a pastor, this was what I hoped our leadership was doing - surrendering to Jesus in desperate prayer.
I didn't take a picture because it seemed a little sacrilegious.
But I want you to know that you were prayed for this week by people granted positions of authority (for a time) and we sought God together as to how we can help you stay encouraged, on mission, and in fulfillment of God's calling in your life.
I know as a superintendent I don't always get things right. I struggle with my own lack of energy during this pandemic and the immensity of the challenges we face in turning a 160 movement/institution around. But I am utterly dependent upon God and he has promised that he will fulfill his mission of forming a people from every tribe, tongue and nation!
I am so excited to be on mission with each of you!
May you feel the Lord's favor upon your life, your family and ministry right now... even if you don't!
Here is what is on my heart for you today:
