Waco Economic Index Report Hits All-Time High

The Waco economy continues to flourish according to the Greater Waco Economic Index, which improved to a record 130.9, up 2.3% over April 2018.
|
|
Driving the market:
- 12 months with hotel occupancy rates averaging over 73%, marking the continuation of a three-year trend with annual growth rates in excess of 10%.
- Strong housing demand continues. Existing home sales have increased 14% with average sale price hovering at $200,000. New home starts continue a three-year run of record growth, up 4.2% in a YTD comparison.
- Job creation remains robust for Greater Waco with 1,900 new jobs added in a 12-month period.

The L3 Technologies plant in Waco will take the lead on a new $499 million contract the Department of Defense awarded to upgrade nearly 180 National Guard and Air Force Reserve C-130H aircraft, the Pentagon announced this week.

Craft whisky distiller Balcones expanding facility, products with $300,000 incentive
Balcones Distilling, which has become a major downtown tourist attraction, will use a $300,000 local economic development grant to upgrade its tasting room and set up a small in-house brewery to slake its visitors' thirst.
