Business Impact #WaconiaMinute

by Kellie Sites, Board of Directors Chair
Roadway and infrastructure improvements, while necessary, can be a major or minor disturbance for business during the construction process. This summer, starting next week, a main connector to downtown Waconia will be closed until most likely November.  Lake Waconia Parkway, which connects 5 major neighborhoods to downtown will be under construction so people in those neighborhoods will need to “go around.” Since I live in one of those neighborhoods, I decided to drive the 2 routes to see how many more Waconia Minutes it would take to get to the Waconia Emagine Theatre from my house. Now it takes me 3 minutes and 4 seconds.  Click here to read more...

Chamber Ambassador Visits
Culver's

Primary Contact: Mark & Cindy Oman
10710 W 10th St
Waconia, MN 55387
952-442-4471

The Ambassadors, the City of Waconia and many customers and staff met Craig Culver, one of the founders of Culver’s.  His family just wanted a great place to eat in Sauk City, Wisconsin – which he said is very much like Waconia.  That was in 1984… now 35 years later, there are 700 locations! Craig has made it a point to visit each one. He presented owners, Mark and Cindy Omann, with the Culver’s Spatula that each restaurant receives.  He told some good stories and had great things to say about Mark and Cindy. We left there knowing what we already knew – we’re glad to have an Omann owned Culver’s in town!
Chamber Ribbon Cutting & Ground Breaking
Haven & Home

Primary Contact: Kelly Brockpahler, NEW owner
44 W 1st St, Suite D
Waconia, MN 55387
952-229-0518

The Ambassadors cut a ribbon for Haven and Home to celebrate new ownership and a new space!  Kelly Brockpahler made an overnight decision to purchase Haven and Home from Barb Sinnen because she knew it was a popular and successful shop. She also knew she wanted it on the street with an awning. She opened the week of Sister Saturday to much acclaim and judging by the amount of goods that were purchased during the ambassador visit, we are sure she will do well! Congratulations, Kelly. We too are glad that Haven and Home is still in Waconia!
Nate Matousek

Primary Contact: Nate Matousek
568 Cherry Dr
Waconia, MN 55387
952-442-2877

Nate and Mia Matousek and Delon Conover made the move from their Lake Minnetonka area office to Waconia and are so glad they did!  Nate and Mia live in Waconia and are loving the commute. The Ambassadors were happy to cut a ribbon for their new space located in the Peterson Building on Cherry. Nate’s Farm, as it is affectionately referred to, specializes in the personal touch. They answer their phone when you have an issue – which is not always M-F 9-5. They serve the Waconia, Victoria, St. Bonifacius, Watertown, Mayer, Norwood Young America, and Minnetrista areas. If you are thinking about getting a free quote for your auto, home or life insurance give them a call or just stop by their new space. Congratulations!
SouthPoint Financial Credit Union

Primary Contact: Troy Diedrich
924 Main St East
Sleepy Eye, MN 56805
952-442-2877

The corner of Cherry and Hwy 5 has been a piece of land empty for too long!  Not anymore. Southpoint Credit Union CEO Dick Nesvold had driven by this lot many times and was excited about the growth in Waconia. Their board of directors said YES, so they broke ground and celebrated the start of their presence in Waconia, looking to open late this fall. The Ambassadors and the City of Waconia were there to support the former land owners, VOS construction team and those from Southpoint Financial Credit Union. These are the names of the SPFCU team:  Dick Nesvold – CEO, Jay Gostonczik – VP of Retail Services, Wendy Salonek – Operations Manager, Patti Gohl – VP of Operations, Troy Diedrich – VP of Marketing & Development, Mark Bruggeman – Board Member, Wendy Salonek – Operations Manager. Congratulations and welcome to Waconia!
