A Message from the President
May is a time to show honor, appreciation, and celebrate!

by Christine Fenner
President, Waconia Chamber of Commerce
It’s May; a time to welcome a change in the season! Did you know that May Day was referred to as International Workers’ Day during the 19th-century Labor Movement? Coincidently, I started my work at the chamber on that very day two years ago. I hadn’t necessarily thought of May Day as a worker day, but more of a day for new beginnings (and May Day baskets on doorsteps). Chelsey also began her role at the chamber in the month of May and will celebrate her one year “workaversary” on this upcoming Sister Saturday.

May is filled with national days to celebrate business industries and workers in a number of different fields. First, to all the moms- Happy Mother’s Day! Being a mom is a big job, and it deserves special recognition! In case you missed it, here are a few important groups to celebrate yet this week (and always): Continue reading...
At the Capitol: FINALLY! UI Trust Fund fix signed into law

Late last week, legislative leaders and Governor Walz finally came to an agreement to fix the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund deficit, stopping a $2.7 billion tax increase on Minnesota employers. Both the House and Senate passed this bill on bipartisan votes and Governor Walz signed it into law late Friday. This helps every single business in the state with employees and is a major victory following months of delays and political negotiations by lawmakers.

This deal included the Chamber's request that UI payroll tax rates be reverted to pre-pandemic levels. Because this law was enacted after the March 15 deadline, the Chamber worked to ensure refunds or credits for quarter one overpayments as well as a grace period for businesses to remit these payments were included in the final package.

Due to the delay in enacting the UI fix, there's some confusion from employers on how the fix impacts their business. See link below.

Also included in the agreement was bonuses for frontline workers. The final deal included a definition that covers nearly 667,000 workers and the appropriation was increased to $500 million in order to provide a nearly $750 dollar bonus to each worker. For information on eligibility, what this means for employers and more, see link below.

See link below for a video explanation of UI, from the Director of Workplace Management and Workforce Development Policy, Lauryn Schothorst.

Kristin Therese Designs Celebrates 12 Years

It's hard to believe, but this month marks my 12th year in business! When I think of where I started to now, it is mind-blowing, and I'm deeply grateful for the support and encouragement I've received by many family members, friends and business connections.

Many of the gifts that have been given to me through owning this business have been unexpected. My confidence has grown, I've been allowed opportunities that have developed my leadership skills, and I've learned more than I ever thought possible; not only as it pertains to staging and design, but also in being a business owner, and running a successful business.
I truly love what I do and am blessed to work with my incredible Realtor partners and amazing clients on their home decorating and design projects!
