Wake County Animal Center launches “Home for the Holidays” campaign

This holiday season, make a shelter pet’s wish come true by giving them a warm, loving home. The Wake County Animal Center kicks off the “Home for the Holidays” adoption campaign from Dec. 1-22. During this time, you can welcome a furry friend for a special adoption fee of just $25 for dogs and $5 for cats.

Currently, there are 99 dogs, three puppies, ten cats and 11 kittens waiting to meet their forever families. Every pet adopted from the Wake County Animal Center is spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines, helping you save on vet bills while gaining a new best friend!

For those unable to adopt, there are still impactful ways to help shelter animals during the campaign:

  • Donate to the Wish List: The Animal Center has created a special holiday wish list featuring essential items, like blankets, toys and food, to help make the animals’ stay more comfortable.
  • Monetary Donations: Contributions of any amount go directly toward the care and well-being of the animals, including medical treatments, shelter improvements, and enrichment activities.

Ready to adopt? Check out our adoption gallery or come by and see the sweet faces for yourself! The shelter is open for adoptions daily from noon to 6 p.m., seven days a week. It is located at 820 Beacon Lake Drive, near the intersection of I-440 and New Bern Avenue in Raleigh.

Paws at the Park

In Wake County, we think parks and pets are a perfect match.

Brought to you by Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space and the Wake County Animal Center, Paws at the Park has two goals:

  • Promoting the benefits of spending time outdoors with your pet
  • Raising awareness of the adorable animals that are up for adoption.

Complete Your Pawsport and Win

Pick up your printed pawsport at any Wake County park or preserve or the Wake County Animal Center. New pet owners will find one in your adoption folder. You can also download a copy here.

Check off the name of the Wake County park or preserve you perused with your pet. When you've completed four visits, take a picture of your card and email it to PawsAtThePark@wake.gov.

We'll send you a cool prize that both you and your pet can enjoy!

Participating Locations

Please note that 6-foot leashes are always required. Please note: pets are not allowed at Historic Yates Mill County Park because of its status as a native wildlife refuge.
