Talon Spreads Eagle Spirit This Holiday Season

 Ath 2012.12.18 1a

Wake Tech' mascot, Talon, made an appearance at the Annual North Carolina Capitol Tree Lighting on December 6. Talon and other mascots from local professional teams entertained the crowd during musical performances. Talon was the only college or university mascot in the crowd.

Our favorite eagle performed his signature moves, the cartwheel and toe touch jump. When Governor Bev Purdue took the stage to address the crowd, Talon, the Eagle cheerleaders, and coaches cheered as the tree was lit. You may have spotted Talon on television as he made his way through the crowd spreading Eagle and holiday spirit!

Talon is a crowd favorite and always represents the Wake Tech community well. From our family to yours, Wake Tech Athletics wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday season!

The men's basketball team is on a five-game win streak! Their most notable wins came against Cape Fear Community College and Sandhills Community College.

Wake Tech's head coach, Van Williams, was an assistant coach at CFCC prior to joining the Eagles. This was his team's first victory over the CFCC Sea Devils during the four years Williams has coached at Wake Tech. The Eagles won the friendly rivalry with a score of 59-57. Sophomore Josh Cassidy recorded 8 rebounds and 5 blocks, while Elijah Johnson lead the offense with 15 points.

The Eagles hosted Catawba Valley CC, Central Carolina CC, and Sandhills CC December 16th for the Wake Tech Classic. During the two-day tournament, Wake Tech defeated Central Carolina on Saturday before facing the Flyers of Sandhills Community College on Sunday. Sandhills CC is currently ranked #1 nationally in the NJCAA DIII polls and they are the 2011-2012 NJCAA DIII National Champions. But the Eagles controlled most of the game and fought hard to earn the 83-73 victory! GO EAGLES!
