From Jean Davis, Community Lay Director

Hello Community. Wow! I can’t believe it is time for the new school year. It has been quite a while since I have had kids going to school but I do remember that it is an anxious time. Both for hoping for good times to begin and the concern that it may not be such a good year. I pray that it is a good and beneficial year for us all.

This time of the year reminds me of a couple of things we need to remember to do. We are doing a Bible study at out church on Wednesday nights looking at the 26 healings of Jesus. It is a study I have done a few times (that’s what you get when you follow a preacher around!). It is a wonderful study and one I would recommend. We soon learn that each time Jesus heals someone, it’s different. I would like to first focus on something that happens most every time. Someone is asking for Jesus to heal them or someone close to them. This is something that we usually discuss in these studies. We wonder how easy it was for the person to ask for healing. Sometimes we see desperation, sometimes we see wondering if Jesus was willing to do the healing, and sometimes we see complete faith that they are doing what Jesus intends them to do. And isn’t that what Jesus told us to do in his sermon on the Mount, “Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” But he doesn’t stop there. He goes on to say, “For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8. We ask. But don’t we often wonder if he will answer?

Well, He tells us we will receive. We WILL RECEIVE! We will receive something – sometimes we will just receive, at least, receive his peace. We have His promise. And that brings me to my second focus. Jesus has compassion for the person. Jesus loves when we ask things of him. He wants us to ask and be confident that he has our good in his mind. We can trust that. If we don’t feel his peace, ask for that. He will answer. He always does. So let’s ask for good school years and His peace. And trust his faithfulness.

And a reminder…Let’s think and pray to hear from Holy Spirit for who we should invite to go on the next walks. Our Women’s walk is full but we are accepting applications for the Spring walk. We have openings on our Men’s walk (September 25-28) and our Chrysalis Flight for high school students, both boys and girls being held October 16-19. Applications are available on our website: www.clemmaus.org.
