Hello Community,


I write this last newsletter of the year and my last as your Community Lay Director with

conflicting emotions. On one hand, this has been a very busy year for me so I am ready to have a restful period of time next year. But on the other hand, I have loved leading the community through the rebuilding period after the pandemic. It has been so rewarding seeing the community thrive through the building of teams for the walks and the transformation of the pilgrims because of the service of those teams and the mighty work of the Holy Spirit. May the Spirit continue to guide and bless this Emmaus community.


During this Advent season, I love the message of the candles of the Advent wreath. I write this on the Sunday where we talk about peace. Do you remember the message of the angels to the shepherds? They praised God singing, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace and good will to men.” The angels knew that because Jesus was born,

men on earth could have the peace that only He could bring. And Jesus did bring us peace, not as the earth brings peace but as Jesus gives it. Peace always brings to my mind, my favorite verse. It is Phillipians 4:8-9:



Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think on these things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me or seen in me – put into practice. And the God of peace will be with you!


God’s peace is here for us all. He brought it to us at Christmas – God with us. But as with many things we receive from the Holy Spirit, we need to put in some effort and sacrifice to receive it to the fullest. Isn’t that what Emmaus is all about. Jesus walked along with his people and opened the scriptures with them. He talked with them and

showed them the way to live their life so we can experience all the things of Christmas – Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. May you live this wonderful season recognizing all that is true, noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable, in the presence of the God of peace.

  • How much is a pilgrim’s fee? 
  • $150


  • What if I can’t pay all $150? 
  • We have full and partial scholorships available – just ask!


  • What if I can’t fulfill all the duties? (Bring to sendoff- stay for sponsor’s hour- Candlelight- Closing- Follow up) 
  • Consider teaming up with someone else to co-sponsor. You can split the cost and/or the duties. Several have done this and it's worked well.


  • Any other questions?
