Newsletter for the Chattanooga-LaFayette Emmaus Community October 2025

From Jean Davis, Community Lay Director

Hello Community. I’m so excited that we have more members this month as we welcome Women’s Walk 77 and Men’s Walk 64! My heart is so full after our walks having heard the testimonies of those pilgrims. As always, the Holy Spirit was alive and moving in the pilgrims’ and team members’ hearts during the weekend.

As we welcome the new pilgrims to our community, I can answer some of the questions they had coming up to the mountain that Thursday. They probably were wondering, “What is Emmaus?”  and “Why can’t you tell me what is going to happen on the mountain?" And, I’m guessing, they now realize that we were not forthcoming with that information, not because we were holding back information, but because we wanted the Holy Spirit to fill in the blanks. The unique move of the Holy Spirit in the individuals’ hearts is evident in the pilgrims’ testimonies on Sunday afternoon’s Closing celebration. We don’t try to explain that before the weekend.

As far as what Emmaus is, according to the literature on the Walk to Emmaus, it is a short course in Christianity. But I think you can agree, it is so much more than that.  I like to say it is a weekend with Jesus. The Emmaus organization is not a church. That is why everyone who desires a closer experience with their Savior is welcome. We don’t talk about doctrine or denominations. We experience how Jesus heals our hearts and fills our spirit and how that encourages us to be more like Jesus and work for his kingdom. All this is so we can go back to our churches and be the hands and feet of Jesus in a renewed way. We provide the opportunity to encounter Jesus in a set-apart way.

It is our prayer (and we do a lot of that!) that you, new pilgrims, received that during your walk. And it is also our prayer that you continue to experience more of the Holy Spirit’s work in your lives as you live your fourth days in your homes, churches, communities and wherever you find yourselves.

Our 2025 Fall walks are not completed yet! Our Chrysalis Flight (a weekend for our high school students) begins next Thursday (October 16th). Let’s really support our youth by sending them off in a great way on Thursday (7pm), attending Candlelight (Saturday 8:30), and Closing (Sunday 3:30). And, of course, you are encouraged to come serve in the kitchen as you are able (mealtimes or on the website – www.clemmaus.org).

I love you all!

De Colores,

Jean
