Newsletter for the Chattanooga-LaFayette Emmaus Community September 2025

From Jean Davis, Community Lay Director

Hello Community. Hasn’t it been nice to have a bit of a reprieve from the over 90 degree weather! It’s been nice to be outside and not sweat and breathe a touch of cooler air. It reminds me of the cool Fall and Spring air we breathe on the mountain during the walks. The Fall walks are coming soon. Have you thought and prayed about who you could sponsor? Our Women’s Walk is full but we do have a few openings for our Men’s and Chrysalis walks. The Men’s walk is September 25-28 and the Chrysalis walk is October 16-19. Think and pray that we have full walks.

Since we have just had a taste of cooler weather, I think of renewal and new starts. We are working to sell our house soon to begin a journey to build a house on our son’s property in Dunlap. This is a big undertaking but one we, as a family, have been talking and praying about for several years. We believe that God is leading us in this direction and that He will guide us in every step along the way.

I think all of us have opportunities to evaluate new directions in our lives. God helps us in these direction changes in many ways. Emmaus is one of these ways. How many of you have, on your walk or in a walk you served on, received a word from the Holy Spirit that led you in a direction you would not have gone on on your own? In my devotion time recently, I read the stories of the lost sheep, the lost coin and the prodigal son and received some insight from my Bible’s (The Passion Translation) commentary that I had not thought of before.

The commentary reflected that these three parables reveal how the Trinity desires to bring people back to the Father through the Son and the Spirit. The Son came as a shepherd seeking and sacrificing to find the lost sheep. The Spirit seeks the lost sinner like the woman searching with the light of illumination for the lost coin until she found it. And the Father welcomes the returning sinner back to his house. It is through the work of the Trinity who brings us to God. All three persons of the Godhead meet us in different ways. The son finds us, loves us and cleans us, the Spirit enlightens us to see how we need the Father, and the Father pulls us into himself for a life that can powerfully change us and the world. I love how the Walk to Emmaus does the same thing.

Let’s think and pray to hear from Holy Spirit for who we should invite to go on the next walks. Our Women’s walk is full but we are accepting applications for the Spring walk. We have openings on our Men’s walk (September 25-28) and our Chrysalis Flight for high school students, both boys and girls being held October 16-19. Applications are available on our website: www.clemmaus.org
