Welcome Home, Carolyn Warlick!
by Suzanne McCord and Tammy Gottshalk
|
|
On Sunday evening, February 21, a crowd gathered in front of Bill and Carolyn Warlick’s home to bear witness to the faithfulness of God in bringing Bill and Carolyn through a long and unbelievably challenging time. We were there to praise God for his goodness in the incredible healing He has worked already and for the ongoing healing that He is still working in Carolyn. We were there as the body of Christ, rejoicing together in the goodness of our great God!
The journey started on an ordinary Saturday morning this past November, the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The sun was shining and Bill and Carolyn were thinking about all the things on their to-do list. But then suddenly, while eating lunch, Carolyn experienced terrible chest pain, and the next thing they knew, Bill was racing her to the ER. No one could have ever guessed that it would be 85 days before Bill would be able to bring her back home!

Children's Choir Rehearsals Resume TODAY!
Wednesday rehearsals: Ages 3-3rd grade
Thursday rehearsals: 4th grade through high school
|
|
All children ages three and up are invited to sing with the children's choirs of St. Philip's! Our youngest singers learn in a music readiness program of singing, listening, and moving to music in a Christian environment, and while they draw on those fundamentals as they progress through the program, singers of all experience levels are welcome to join at any age. Come sing with us as we look forward to our concert in the church in April!

Other Small-Group Offerings for 20s-30s
|
|
One of the things that COVID-19 has made us keenly aware of is our longing for real community. And the Scriptures are clear: we need one another because as Christians, we belong to one another. At St. Philips, we want to create places where no matter where you are in your journey of faith, you can connect and grow in community.
To that end, we are launching several different groups for those in their twenties and thirties. Some groups will follow a certain book; others will simply discuss the previous sermon together and apply it practically to our lives. In each, however, there is an emphasis on building spiritual friendships: getting to know one another better, bearing one another’s burdens, and growing in our faith, all in a place of welcome and hospitality. No matter your season of life––whether you're new to the faith or the church or you've been coming to church for a while, whether you're in a hard or time-consuming season with kids or you're single with a bit more time on your hands––we’d love to have you join us! Information about time, location, and leaders/hosts of each group are at the link below; registration is coming soon!

St. Philip's welcomed the Rev. Bill Christian to the pulpit for the first time on Sunday, and he challenged the congregation not to let frequently occurring temptations distract us from our primary purpose: being strong followers of Jesus Christ. Do you know where you are most vulnerable to temptation?

A note about the February 21 10:30 a.m. service: Whether the cause of the power outage that interrupted the livestream was the Rev. Bill Christian's rousing sermon, the Rev. Jeff Miller's "jinx" during the announcements,* or a Dominion Energy power supply issue, we may never know, but we do know that the resulting damage was minimal, and we should be up and running as usual this Sunday.
* No, we do not believe in jinxes.

Tonight at 7:15 p.m. on Zoom

Mere Christianity began as a series of radio talks during the darkest days of World War II in England. Lewis was asked by the BBC to do the talks because so many people were living in fear and anxiety and were feeling that the world was crumbling around them, that "the wheels had come off the bus." Our culture today is beset with many of those same anxieties, albeit for different reasons. Lewis's broadcast talks were then edited by Lewis and published in book form as Mere Christianity. The book is still remarkably fresh today and serves as an encouragement to the believer, a winsome challenge to the doubter, and an effective apologetic for the unbeliever.

Sexton Ben Singleton already has part-time help in the form of assistant sexton Eric Pickford, but it's always a good idea to have another helper on deck! Enter sexton-in-training Cecilia Walchesky, who helped prep the sanctuary between Ash Wednesday services last week. "She's a very good, hard worker," said Singleton of Walchesky, who will turn two in April. "She has a good head on her shoulders and a good work ethic."
This news was released last week over social media. If you'd like to be among the first to know about part-time staff updates, schedule changes, four-legged office visitors, and other important news, take a minute to click the buttons below to like or follow St. Philip's now!
