Hello friends!

AWE-gust adventures are awesome!
This month we are exploring different sizes and types of forests all around us. We've hiked the trails through Gray's Woods Preserve and last week we saw a variety of tree species at the James Evans Oak Arboretum at Lederer Park in downtown State College. What tree or forest is your favorite so far this season?

Learn something new in an old-growth forest...
We'll continue to discover and celebrate Pennsylvania's trees and forest this week as well, at Alan Seeger Natural Area. Alan Seeger is home to one of about twenty old-growth forests in the state. Join us this week for an interesting glimpse of what Pennsylvania's forests looked like hundreds of years ago. All event details are below!

Centred Outdoors is for making memories!

Upcoming Adventures!
Sunday, August 14 at 1 and 3 p.m.
Wednesday, August 17 at 6 p.m.

At 100-years-old or less, most of Pennsylvania’s trees are fairly young due to the state’s nearly complete deforestation by Europeans through the 1800s. However at Alan Seeger Natural Area, you can step back in time and into a stand of old-growth trees that were left untouched due to confusion over which logging company had rights to land. Wander under ancient giants and come eye to eye with recently fallen ones while following a trail loop that’s less than a mile long. Extend your adventure by exploring beyond the natural area via the Standing Stone Trail to connect to the wider trail system in Rothrock State Forest.

Schedule for this week:

Sunday, August 14:

🌳 1 and 3 p.m. Join a guided group hike along a 1-mile loop trail through the natural area with a Centred Outdoors guide.

☮ 1 and 3 p.m. Participate in a forest bathing experience intended to promote mindfulness and relaxation with Stephanie Koller, artist and mindfulness instructor.

Wednesday, August 17:

🌳 6 p.m. Join a guided group hike along a 1-mile loop trail through the natural area with a Centred Outdoors guide.

The scenes along the Musser Gap Trail are memorable no matter the season. The 423-acre property was purchased by Clearwater Conservancy and transferred to DCNR Bureau of Forestry in 2007 in order to protect an important groundwater recharge area for the community as well as vital wildlife habitat. The trail is at a steady incline most of the way up with a beautiful bridge crossing over a brook about 0.8 miles in.
