Walk Update

Our Progress So Far

We have gotten to the area of Shipshewana, Indiana this very first week! Although only 670 people live in Shipshewana, it is home to the third largest Amish community in the U.S. It has the Midwest’s largest flea market and a reputation for hand-crafter wares. The Amish are a group of traditionalist Christian church fellowships with origins in the Swiss German Anabaptists. They have a reputation for simple living, plain dress, and a reluctance to adopt many modern conveniences.  As we travel through Shipshewana, please respect their shunning of photography and be aware that area businesses are closed on Sundays.

Week 2 Travelogue - Ohio

This week we will be traveling through the state of Ohio and possibly even into western Pennsylvania.  Ohio, the Buckeye State , became the 17th state in the Union in 1803.  Ohio is an industrial state. It is the second largest US producer of automobiles, behind Michigan. Ohio has the nation’s tenth largest highway system and claims to be a one day’s drive from 50% of the nation’s population. Its northern border is the Lake Erie shoreline and its southern border is defined by the Ohio river Famous individuals who called Ohio home: Neil Armstrong, Erma Bombeck, George Armstrong Custer, Doris Day and seven U.S. Presidents (James Garfield, Ulysses S. Grant, Warren Harding, Rutherford Hayes, Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley and William Taft).

Submit your mileage weekly

Each participant is asked to track and report their mileage weekly. Use the  Weekly Tally Sheet  to help you and other participating family members track their mileage each day and accumulate for the week; Sunday thru Saturday. Submit mileage weekly through  this on-line form . If necessary, return a Weekly Tally Sheet each Sunday morning in the designated basket in the Narthex.
