We are traveling through our
neighbor state of Iowa
this first week of our journey.
The total population of Iowa is 3.146 million people. That’s over 1.22 million more than Nebraska!
Iowa’s capital and largest city is Des Moines. Iowa’s nickname is the Hawkeye State.
While most of us probably think of Iowa as a farming state, their economy is mostly based on manufacturing, biotechnology, finance and insurance, and government services.
Herbert Hoover, Mamie Eisenhower, Norman Borlaug, Bill Bryson, Harry Reasoner, Grant Wood, and many more.
Some of the places we might visit as we cross the state of Iowa include:
Bridges of Madison County near Winterset, Iowa
The Iowa State Capitol and the Des Moines Art Center in Des Moines
The Amana colonies near Williamsburg, Iowa
National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque, Iowa
