WALKING IN THE OLD-TIME WAY

So now the Lord says, “Stop right where you are! Look for the old, godly way and walk in it. Travel its path and you will find rest for your souls.” Jeremiah 6:16

Life is changing all around me as I grow older. The way people look and dress is changing; the way people talk to each other is changing; what is allowed on television, or the internet is changing and respect for the value of life is changing. And oftentimes I wonder: What has happened to the old and godly way? When we once lived life in a way that honored God, ourselves, and others?

God challenged the people of Judah, the southern kingdom of Israel, to return to living in the old and godly way. They had aroused the anger of God by worshiping other gods, sacrificing children, and practicing all kinds of lewd behavior. Before he sent the powerful army of Babylon to destroy their city and capture those who remained alive, he gave Judah one last warning through his prophet Jeremiah - to return to the old and godly way of living according to His commandments.

Our world believes that living according to God 's way is outdated. But the Bible says otherwise. For God's Word is still alive, powerful, and sharper than any double-edged sword. His word still cuts through our spirits and souls until it discovers the desires and intents of our hearts. And His word still serves as a lamp to guide our feet and light our path. (Hebrews 4:12, Psalms 119:105, NLT).

The right path for living was marked out by God when he penned his holy word through the hands of menAncient because it was written long ago? Yes, but still very much alive and well to help us walk, talk, and live according to his will and way- the only way to find true peace and rest for our weary souls!

Sharing the Word,

Jeaninne

Prayer: Father, thank you that no matter how old the Bible gets, it will never grow old as I seek to live my life according to your will and way today. Amen.
