Walking the Pilgrim’s Path | | |
A journey of eight thousand miles begins with a single step.
In a world that moves ever faster, walking offers a simple way to slow down. Through pilgrimage, we reconnect with the land and rediscover our true place within the living world.
In this newsletter, we explore pilgrimage in many forms: through stories from the Resurgence archive, reflections on walking as a spiritual practice, and an upcoming talk with
Guy Hayward on how pilgrimage can help us
find our way again.

As I Roved Out
by Sam Lee, Issue 333, July/August 2022
In this lyrical reflection, Sam Lee explores walking as
a practice of connection with the land.
Guided by traditional folk songs, he describes leading pilgrimages through woods and fields where singing and walking become a way of rediscovering Nature’s rhythms and renewing our relationship with the living landscape.

Resurgence Talk: Guy Hayward
‘Walking ourselves home’
Wednesday 25 March • 7—8pm GMT • via Zoom
How is pilgrimage positioned in this modern world to help us find our direction again? How can we visit the sacred places and engage in spiritual practices along the footpath to know who we are? What gifts can we bring back from our journeys to everyday life?
Guy Hayward is Director of the British Pilgrimage Trust, which he co-founded in 2014 to promote the practice of ‘bring your own beliefs’ pilgrimage in Britain. He has been leading pilgrimages since 2016, guiding people in group singing about Nature as well as folk and sacred songs. He co-authored
the book Britain’s Pilgrim Places.

Earthed: The Pollinator Pilgrimage
Saturday 25 April • 10am to 5pm
Along the River Lea to Walthamstow Wetlands
The Pollinator Pilgrimage will be a one-day walk across London, celebrating the launch of Pollinate Together,
a city-scale initiative to grow wildlife through
a living pollinator corridor across the capital.
It's simple. Imagine London thriving. Walk, sow seeds
on good soil, create a future pathway for pollinators of every kind. Let bees and butterflies show us the way. Connect with each other and all life. Light, fun and doing what's needed.
This pilgrimage is a collaboration between Advaya, British Pilgrimage Trust, Be The Earth, Earthed, Initiative Earth, Schumacher College and The Resurgence Trust, coming together to celebrate this shared beginning.
| | |
We hope you’ll find time to step outside and enjoy a pilgrimage of your own — connecting with the land and the living world, in whatever form that journey takes for you.
With all good wishes,
The Resurgence Team
