Celebrating the Feast of the Visitation

Our Lady's Example At the end of May, the Church celebrates the Feast of Visitation. This feast commemorates the meeting of Mary and Elizabeth, who are pregnant with Jesus and John the Baptist, respectively. Scripture tells us that when Mary discovered that her cousin Elizabeth was pregnant, she "set out and traveled to the hill country in haste" (Lk 1:39). Despite the challenging circumstances of her own pregnancy, Mary does not hesitate to go to Elizabeth in her time of need. Diocese of Fort Worth Launches Walking with Moms in Need

The Diocese of Fort Worth has specifically chosen to launch Walking with Moms in Need on May 31 because it’s the Feast of the Visitation. The diocese thinks it is the perfect day because it celebrates Our Lady going to help St. Elizabeth during her pregnancy. They have also chosen the Blessed Mother, St. Elizabeth, and St. Joseph as their patrons for their local efforts. Learn more about Fort Worth's local initiative.

On Mother's Day, Detroit Highlights Walking with Moms The Archdiocese of Detroit celebrated Mother's Day with this beautiful Instagram post about local Walking with Moms in Need efforts. Archbishop Vigneron added his own thoughts on the occasion: "I give the Lord thanks that parishes in the Archdiocese are embracing this lifesaving ministry of supporting women in need as they navigate pregnancy and parenthood. This is one more way our parishes are striving to answer Jesus' call to practice evangelical charity: by going out and unleashing the Gospel of Life both with pastoral accompaniment and practical assistance. It is my hope that through the ongoing Walking with Moms in Need initiative, women who face difficult or crisis circumstances will find our Catholic parishes and communities to be places where they can turn for real help."
