Rochester: Program helps parishes walk with moms in need

Most Reverend Salvatore R. Matano, Bishop of Rochester

Catholic Courier

September 6, 2022

"... In my communication to you and the faithful of the Diocese on June 24, 2022, on the occasion of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, I asked that 'all our parishes and diocesan charitable agencies renew and expand their services to women and children so that mothers can bring their children into this world with peace and tranquility and always knowing they are never abandoned.' 'Now is a great time for us to just focus all of our congregations on what we can do to really give women good choices and to help everyone understand that the church does care about women and there’s many, many, many resources that we have on hand already and many that are available that we may not know of,' said Dawn Fitzpatrick, the archdiocese’s senior coordinator for Human Dignity and Solidarity..."

Honolulu: Walking with moms in need

Deacon Gary & Val Streff

Hawaii Catholic Herald

June 24, 2022

"... Many times, pregnant and parenting moms find themselves in desperate need of help. According to Catholic social teaching, every individual is our brother or sister in Christ. As Christians, we are called to welcome these women to assist in whatever way we can.

Every Christian is faced with these questions: How do I respect the life and dignity of every person from conception to natural death? How should I get involved in efforts to find solutions and positive contributions toward bringing hope and love at another’s time of need? Can I speak the truth and become a voice for the voiceless? How willing am I to live these God-given truths?...

The diocese has chosen Sept. 8, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, as the birthday of the Walking with Mom’s Program in Hawaii."

"... The Archdiocese of St. Louis will continue to provide information on local resources for women facing unexpected and difficult pregnancies, Archbishop Rozanski said, 'cherishing and protecting women and their children, so that they may both develop their full potential in this world and be happy with God forever in the next.'

The Respect Life Apostolate, which receives support from the Annual Catholic Appeal, has a local online resource guide that includes support providers offering help with financial, housing, emotional and spiritual needs. The locally compiled resources are the result of a nationwide Walking with Moms in Need campaign developed by the U.S. bishops. See walkingwithmomsSTL.com for more information."
