The State of Our City
State of the City luncheon
February 18, 2020, Clubhouse at Boundary Oak

Mayor Loella Haskew delivers her 2020 State of the City address hosted by the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau. Opening remarks by the Chair of the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce, Jim Fidelibus.

Board Director and 2021 Chair-Elect Margot Stanford emceed the annual State of the City Luncheon. The event, presented by the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau, and the City of Walnut Creek was held at the Clubhouse at Boundary Oak and attended by nearly 200 eager to hear about the status of Walnut Creek and what's on the horizon for 2020.

James Fidelibus Chairman of the Board,  Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau, and owner of Photography by James Fidelibus updated the group on decades of successful Chamber programs, political action, and community events. The room was filled with graduates of the Leadership Contra Costa sm program, now in its 33 year. Graduates included  Mayor Haskew , Fidelibus, and Stanford.  Other legacy programs sited were the East Bay Women's Conference celebrating its 15th anniversary on March 2, 2020, the upcoming 39th annual Walnut Creek Art & Wine Festival, and the 28th year serving the Political Action Committee and Candidates Forum.

Fidelibus also shared his perspective through eyes as a small business owner in Walnut Creek back to 1994 when he immediately found value in Chamber membership. He highlighted the Chamber partnership with SCORE, the Senior Corps of Retired Executives. SCORE provides free, one-on-one counseling at the Chamber--181 clients were mentored last year alone. He thanked the Walnut Creek Convention and Visitors Bureau and the hotel General Managers for their efforts in welcoming 7.8 million travelers per year to the Jewel of the East Bay.

In closing, Fidelibus said, "a community, like a photograph, is part skill, part art, part luck, and a big part hard work."

The Chamber thanks AT&T, F & M Bank, and John Muir Health for their support bringing the State of City to the community of Walnut Creek.
