Hello!

Join NCTE and the Library of Congress for a special Poetry Month webinar about Walt Whitman on May 1 at 3 p.m. ET. You will have the opportunity to explore the By the People crowdsourcing site , which invites anyone with an internet connection to transcribe, review, and analyze primary sources. Last year, we teamed up to host a webinar on the day we launched the " Walt Whitman at 200 " campaign on By the People. See a recording of our collaborative webinar from 2019, featuring information about the Whitman collections at Library of Congress, and ideas for teaching Whitman here .
This year we're back with a follow-up webinar and a challenge for educators and students who are interested in analyzing Whitman's original works. All of the 4,000 Whitman papers released last year have been transcribed, but 1,400 still need to be reviewed. Review is a crucial part of the process–it's an opportunity for someone to check that a transcription matches the original document, and either edit or approve it. In this year’s webinar, we'll also offer new tips and suggestions about how to incorporate book history approaches to textual analysis into your teaching.
