Historic Ribbon Cutting at Walton High School
"Walton is what it is, not because of the bricks and mortar, but because of the teachers, and the parents, and the kids who strive for excellence," said U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson as he helped celebrate the official opening of a new Walton High School building on a bright, sunny Sunday afternoon.

Flanked by other dignitaries including (L-R) Principal Judy McNeill, Superintendent Chris Ragsale, CCSD Board Vice Chair Scott Sweeney, CCSD Board Chair David Chastain and US Representative Karen Handel, the ribbon was cut a few minutes after 2pm on July 31st. Other notables attending included State School Superintendent Richard Woods, CCSD Board members David Banks and Brad Wheeler, Cobb County Commissioner Bob Ott and members of Mr. Ragsdale's Executive Cabinet.

Attendees marveled over the details of the new facility- the Information Center (previously known as the Media Center) "is stunning" commented one parent and the wide hallways are "sorely needed" observed another. No lockers may take some getting used to, but our students will probably adapt quicker than adults! Some seniors are able to eat lunch in the atrium area with one senior commenting "All of the natural light is so uplifting. It's nice to look out and see green trees."

The next phase of the SPLOST IV project at Walton will include a performing arts center and athletic buildings. Completion of the entire project, which is being constructed by Gilbane Building Company, is slated for spring of 2019.

Fresh and Sensational!
The Creation Station Opening at Walton

Get ready for some exciting changes this year at Walton as we add new freshness to your variety and shake up the school lunch program. With the start of the new school year, Walton not only has a new cafeteria but it also has a new lunch option -
Creation Station.

You might be asking, "What is that?" Both students and staff will now have the power to fuel their own culinary creation through the inclusion of a variety of fresh ingredients that will include seasonal vegetables, Georgia grown produce and much more! If options such as spinach, tomatoes, banana peppers, corn, beans, cheese, cucumbers, eggs, chicken, and much more appeal to you, then create it the way you want it!

The student nutrition club, Food 4 Thought, is thankful to Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) for implementing the new program this year. "We are so excited that we will have the salad bar to start off the school year in our new building. We really wanted some new fresh and healthy options for everyone at Walton to try!" says Hannah Kedzierski, club president.
Monique Johnson, MS., RDN., LD., Associate Director, Nutrition & Menus states, "We [FNS] piloted the Creation Station program at 4 high schools last year and had great success. We are excited to expand this opportunity to all of our high school students and staff."
The Creation Station is available for everyone to enjoy and falls under  regular pricing for lunch. Creation Stations will be opening in all Cobb County high schools this fall.

Parents: please encourage your child to check it out and let us know what they think. Questions? Contact JoAnne Hammermaster, PTSA Health & Wellness Co-chair, at
