News, Resources and Volunteer Opportunities
Open House and PTSA General Meeting, Wednesday August 16:  Please plan to attend our Open House and PTSA General meeting.  You can pick up your student's schedule, then walk through their classes, meet their teachers and learn about class curriculum.  Experts will be on hand to help you set up your ParentVue account.  There will be two identical sessions the first starting at 3:30 p.m. and the second starting directly after the PTSA General Meeting at 5:30 p.m.  At 5:30 p.m., please join us for the PTSA General Meeting in the Theater where all PTSA members will vote for the the budget approval and will learn about PTSA programs.

Homeroom Donations:   Any donations of Clorox Wipes, Kleenex, and Hand Sanitizer would be appreciated. Please bring your donations to your student's homeroom teacher during Open House. 
Office 365 Training:   Is your student new to the amazing tools that Office 365 provides.  We encourage those students to attend the Office 365 training provide during WEB on August 16th at 1:15 p.m. during WEB, in the Information Center's Computer Lab, room 205.  Learn more about how Cobb County Schools encourage use of Office 365 by clicking HERE.
School Directory Deadline:   The PTSA is working on the 2017-18 Walton High School Directory. There are some families who have registered on the website, but did not include complete information.  We encourage parents to verify that their information is correct by visiting the website at  www.waltonptsa.org . If you have not registered and would like to be included in the 2017-18 Walton High School Directory, please enter your family's information on our website at  www.waltonptsa.org  by Sunday, August 20, 2017.

From the Nurse
A Note from the School Nurse: Over-the counter medicine (OTC), for example:  Ibuprofen, Tylenol, & cough drops may be carried by high school students without an authorization form. *The clinic does not keep a supply of OTC medications. The OTC medicine carried by a student must be in the original container. DO NOT bring OTC medicine in a zip lock bag. This should be a small personal supply of medicine, and may not be shared with other students. Parents and students are responsible for knowing the proper dosage and use of these medicines. For further information re: CCSD medication procedures and clinic protocols at school. Click HERE.
For Seniors
Senior Parent Night:   Please join us for a presentation on the College Application Process on Monday, August 21st at 6:30 p.m. in the Theater.  We will discuss college application basics, Naviance, the HOPE scholarship, and other pertinent information for seniors.  After the general presentation, we will have Q&A time and then an additional presentation for interested families on highly selective college admissions and a Naviance demonstration.  If you are unable to attend the presentation, we will post the PowerPoint on our website.  Click HERE to visit the website. 
Timber Ridge Alums class of 2018:   We are organizing a photo of the 2018 Seniors that attended Timber Ridge Elementary for the Walton Yearbook .  It will be taken on Saturday, August 26th, at 5:00 p.m. at the Timber Ridge Elementary playground.  You may have to park on the street if the lot is closed.  Please email aprilbeaupre@yahoo.com if you can attend so we have an idea of how many students will be in the photo. We will confirm cost when we know how many students, but it should be between $12-$15 per person.
For Juniors
Lottery for Junior Parking:  Good news!!  We have 20 parking spots available for junior parking, with selection to be held by lottery on Wednesday, August 16th.  Please note: All junior parking will be at the church parking lot at the corner of Bill Murdock and Sewell Mill Road.  Juniors are eligible for parking either fall or spring semester--but not both!  Those juniors who have parking in the fall are NOT eligible to enter the lottery for spring.

Student must have a valid GA driver's license and tag (learners permits are NOT acceptable), along with proof of insurance.  To enter the lottery for this semester, complete a lottery ticket at the front office by 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 16th (students submitting multiple lottery tickets will be disqualified.)  Winners will be notified and must then present all necessary documentation and payment for parking.  More information can be found on the Student Parking website or contact Mr. Tischler for questions.
Clubs and Organizations
Walton PTSA Community Outreach Club: The Kick-Off Meeting will be in the Information Center Lecture Hall on Thursday, August 17th  at  3:30 p.m.   Did you know that Walton PTSA Community Outreach Club sends hundreds of students into the community to tutor, visit the elderly, feed the homeless and much more?
Students:  Come to our Kick-Off Meeting and learn about the  opportunities available,  requirements of club membership, and  how to get involved.  (Stop by our table at Club Fair for more information.)  Student leaders will be available to answer questions.

Legislation and Advocacy
Why National PTA Endorsed the Teachers and Parents at the Table Act:   The Teachers and Parents at the Table Act would create two committees made up of teachers, parents and family members to advise the Secretary of Education, report to Congress on family engagement in education and offer guidance for state and local education leaders to improve family engagement policies in schools.

Health and Wellness
From Health and Wellness Committee:   Feedback is needed By August 18th in Cobb & Douglas Counties Community Health Planning.   If you live, work or play in Cobb or Douglas county you are invited to review and provide feedback to the drafted 2016 Cobb & Douglas Community Health Assessment (CHA) and 2017-2021 Cobb & Douglas Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). The survey will be open from August 7th - 18th.  All participants providing contact information will be entered to win a $25 Walmart gift card. You could be one of 10 winners! Detailed instructions can be found on the CDPH website at  CHA and CHIP Survey .  
The CHA provides a comprehensive picture of what is happening related to health in our community based on an assessment conducted every three to five years. The CHIP outlines a 5-year action plan to improve the health of our residents. Public feedback requested before the final publication.

Walton Raider Football:    Come cheer on the Walton Raiders as they take on the North Gwinnett Bulldogs at the Georgia State Stadium (formerly Turner Field) on August 19th at 8:45 p.m.  General Admission is $13.00.  Tickets Sale Dates are Tuesday, August 15th at the  Raider Valley Ticket Booth from  5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m and on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday,  August 16th, 17th, and 18th in the  Walton High School Dining Hall from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.   Questions contact   tammy.feilmeier@cobbk12.org

Crew for Pippin:  MANDATORY Parent Meeting  If you are cast in or will be part of the Crew for Pippin, there will be a MANDATORY Parent Meeting on Tuesday, August 22nd at 6:30 p.m. in the Walton Theater.  The completed PARENT PACKET AND FEES ARE DUE AT THIS MEETING.
