From Administration
Solar Eclipse August 21st Procedures:   Due to the solar eclipse, attendance incentive will not count for August 21st.  Students who wish to take the entire day to view the eclipse may do so. That absence will be with incentive, provided they bring a note to their homeroom teacher the next day. Notes for full day absences should not be sent until Tuesday, August 22.

If you will be checking your child out early, they must be off campus by 1:30 p.m.  There will be no phone check outs on Monday for the eclipse.  Everyone will need a note if they check out early.

To provide a safe educational experience, students who are at Walton High School will be viewing the eclipse on the television as live streamed from NASA. Students will not be going outside to view the live eclipse.

From the Nurse
A Note from the School Nurse:  Over-the counter medicine (OTC), for example:  Ibuprofen, Tylenol, & cough drops may be carried by high school students without an authorization form. *The clinic does not keep a supply of OTC medications. The OTC medicine carried by a student must be in the original container. DO NOT bring OTC medicine in a zip lock bag. This should be a small personal supply of medicine, and may not be shared with other students. Parents and students are responsible for knowing the proper dosage and use of these medicines. For further information re: CCSD medication procedures and clinic protocols at schoo, click HERE.

Legislation and Advocacy
Resolutions Approved at NPTA Convention: Part of the business conducted each summer at the National PTA Convention is to approve resolutions, which typically come from a local advocate and school and work their way through the system, with vetting done. The two resolutions approved at the 2017 Convention are the  Resolution on Healthy Sleep for Adolescents and an amendment to the  Resolution on the Sale, Resale and Destruction of Firearms (two additional Resolved clauses were added). Both of these speak to issues that can impact the health, safety and well-being of our children.

Each year, the Cobb County Board of Education develops its legislative priorities. To see the 2017 list, click  HERE.  This guides the work of the board and communications with elected officials, Dept. Of Education staff and employees.
