The Entrepreneurial Mindset,  a workshop facilitated by members from Kennesaw State Universities Robin and Doug Shore Entrepreneurship Center and sponsored by the  PTSA as a Raiders Choice event and Skills USA.  If your student is interested in business or an aspiring entrepreneur or just interested in learning more about starting a business, please encourage them to attend, January 24 1:00 to 3:00 pm during WEB in the Lecture Hall.

2016-17 Georgia Parent Survey:   Calling all Parents to please complete the 2016-17 Georgia Parent Survey.  It takes 5 minutes and results have a direct input to Walton's College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI), which is a rating computed by the Georgia Department of Education.  You can go on line  HERE to complete the survey.  Strong parent participation on the survey is critical in this score! 

PTSA Officer Nominations:  Be a  Walton PTSA Leader!  Help every child meet their full potential.  We're starting the search process for next year's PTSA officers.  Open positions for the 2018/2019 school year: Co-President, Vice President Programs, Vice President Volunteers, Vice President Communications, and Treasurer.  If you have questions or interest in any of these positions, please email WaltonPresident@gmail.com.  Nominations will be accepted starting February 12th.

Sophomore Parent Night:  The Walton High School Counselors invite you to attend Sophomore Parent Night on Monday, January 22nd at 6:30 p.m. in the Walton HS Theater.  We will focus on interpretation and application of scores as they relate to the SAT and college planning. 
Applerouth will be hosting free online practice tests for the SAT and ACT on January 27 + 28. Afterwards, students will receive a detailed score analysis to help them understand areas of strength and opportunity.  To sign up for a practice test, please visit applerouth.com/januarytest.

The 2nd Annual Community Connections Resource Fair

YOUTH CULTURE 101:  A conversation about Alcohol and other drug use, depression and social media  Speaker:  Jeff Dess,   Coordinator of the Prevention Intervention Center for CCSD  Lassiter High School invites all Walton parents and gaurdians to attend this engaging, entertaining and information filled presentation about prevention and intervention. Legislative & Advocacy
Between the MLK Day holiday on Monday and snow days, not much has happened under the Gold Dome since our last update! We will keep you informed throughout the session on budget items, educational policy and bills impacting children's health and well-being. 

The Cobb School Board of Education adopted its meeting calendar for 2018 and is going to a monthly meeting schedule. You can see the calendar here . Also, see the Board's  2018 Legislative Priorities .

For Seniors

Margie Hatfield Scholarship Fund The East Cobb County Council (ECCC) PTA created a scholarship to honor the dedication and years of service given by Mrs. Hatfield to the youth of our Council PTA.  Each spring one senior Walton student who has made a significant contribution to the community can be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.  Any graduating senior enrolled in a full-time course of study at any institute of higher learning may apply. Students, however, must be a member of your school's PTSA and if awarded a scholarship, must use the funds for continuing education.  Applications must be postmarked no later than February 28, 2018.  Click HERE  for the application.
Raider Pride Scholarship  Each year, the PTSA gives a $1000 scholarship to one boy and one girl recipient from the senior class. To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, the student 
must have received the Raider Pride Award at some point in their high school career. This award recognizes students who consistently demonstrated exceptional character traits, including honesty, integrity and kindness.  We welcome seniors who have received the Raider Pride Award to apply.  Application deadline is 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017.  Winners will be announced at Honors Night in the spring. Clubs and Organizations

Second Annual Sadie Hawkins Winter Ball will be held Saturday, February 3rd, 7:00 - 10:00 in the Walton gymnasium. Girls can ask a date or girls and guys can attend with a group of friends. Dress is semi-formal attire. Tickets can be purchased for $20 starting January 20th during lunch period. Cash or check made out to Walton High School. Chick-fil-a Leadership Academy is hosting the event to raise money to give back to the community.  This will be a really fun night that students are not going to want to miss!

Chick-Fil-A Biscuit Sales Continue through March 30th! Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:30AM to 8:15AM. In the WHS Rotunda, Only $4 each,  All proceeds benefit the WHS Wrestling Program  Stop by for a hot fresh chicken biscuit - A great way to start your day!

The Walton Chorus Annual Fashion Show and Silent Auction, "ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE," will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 in the Walton Theater.  This event features our talented students performing songs and modeling fashions from local retailers. Enjoy the silent auction in the new rotunda offering items such as concert tickets, gift certificates, a Big Green Egg, an iPhone and much more!  Silent auction at 6:00pm and show at 7:00pm.  Tickets are $12 in advance/$15 at the door and can be purchased here.

Walton Band Garage Sale Now Accepting Donations!  It's time for early Spring cleaning!  Let's get organized and donate those gently used household items to the Walton Band Garage Sale coming up on Saturday March 10. We are accepting donations at our drop off site in Paper Mill Village (Suite 740 near Moxie Burger). We accept donations on Thursdays 6pm-9pm and Saturdays 8am-1pm until the day of the garage sale itself. Visit our Facebook page (Walton Band Garage Sale 2018) or email us at  garagesale@waltonband.org  with questions or to schedule a large pickup. Please consider donating your items and help support the fine arts!  Items donated may be tax deductible.
