News, Resources and Volunteer Opportunities
The Great American Smokeout and Vape Out:  The U.S. surgeon general reported that 1 in 6 high school students have used e-cigarettes in the past month and declared that teens should  not  be vaping. Learn more in this 2 minute video by clicking HERE . Please encourage your student to participate in The Great American Smokeout and Vape Out event outside the dining hall during lunch, Thursday, November 16, 2017.  There will be videos, displays, informative games and a gift card drawing.  The PTSA's goal is to educate students about the health consequences of vaping and tobacco use.  We want every Walton student to commit to stop vaping or tobacco use or to never start to use these highly addictive drugs.  Lastly, you can find information on how to quit smoking by calling Georgia Tobacco Quit Line: 1-877-270-STOP.

PTSA Seeking Student Feedback:  The PTSA is asking all students to participate in a short survey about current PTSA programs and future student needs.  Please encourage your student to come to the Information Center Lecture hall during WEB to complete a short survey and receive a chance to win prizes.
The Walton Information Center is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair:   Stop by the Information Center to shop the sale  Monday, November 13th through Friday, November 17thTeacher gift certificates are available for purchase in any denomination.  On-line sales run through Monday, November 21st Shop on-line for convenience and for an expanded list of titles, including many for young adults. Preventing Substance Abuse:   What can I do to help prevent my child from using? How do genetics play into the abuse equation? What can parents do in the younger years to promote resiliency against drugs, peer pressure, etc? If you are curious about the answers to these questions and more, please come and join Ann Wilson, LPC, CADC II, CCS, CEAP and Keeley Baily, MSW, LCSWM, RPT for an evening of discussion and learning. Teens & Law Presentation:  Sprayberry High School PTSA is hosting a free presentation about The Worst Advice Well-intentioned Parents Give Their Kids About the Law, on  Thursday, 11/16, 6:30 p.m., at Sprayberry High School, in our LGI (small auditorium). Students are welcome to attend with their parents. Those who attended last year found it very informative. Click HERE for more details.

From Administration
Online/Credit Card Payments:  Walton High School and the Cobb County School District now has an online/credit card payment option for many school activities.  If you do not already have an account created with "My Payments Plus" (already used for lunch accounts, ASP, etc.), we encourage you to visit www.mypaymentsplus.com to create an account for future use.  Currently, Junior/Senior dues and transcripts can be paid through this portal but many other activities and fees will be available soon.

Georgia Milestones End of Course Test:   This year, Georgia will be implementing the Georgia Milestones End of Course Test to replace the previous EOCT.  These tests have been redesigned to reflect new content and process standards.  The Mathematics and Social Studies sections of the test are 70 minutes in length.  

The tests will be given: 

December 4:  Accelerated Geometry (Make-ups December 5)
December 7 and 8:  Economics 

Due to time necessary for validation, scores will not be reported until spring at which time they will be recorded on student transcripts.

GAPTA Legislative Priorities: Each year, Georgia PTA surveys you, our members, to develop our Legislative Priorities. Below is the link to this year's survey. Your participation in the survey will help direct GAPTA advocacy efforts during the 2018 Legislative Session. The survey is open until Friday, November 17. Take the one minute survey  HERE.

Get a Survival Kit for your student before final exams:   Order a fun pack with a personalized message, great snacks, a Walton surprise, and more. Deadline to order is Wednesday, December 6th. You can order now and get more info by clicking HERE. Cost is $12 per kit or $20.00 for both the fall and spring survival kits.  All proceeds benefit the students and teachers at Walton.
Clubs and Organizations
Food Drive - November 2nd through November 15th:   Walton's Interact, Spanish and Habitat for Humanity Clubs are sponsoring a food drive to provide Thanksgiving dinner for needy families in Cobb County.  Bring one or more of the food items listed HERE and place in the collection bag/box in your homeroom or in the barrels close to the main entrance.  Chick-fil-A breakfast will be awarded to the homeroom contributing the most items!
