Don't be Scared Be Prepared Self Defense Workshops:  All senior girls are invited to a free Self Defense Workshop on Wednesday October 18th from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Click HERE for more information.  A community workshop is planned Tuesday, October 17th from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Click HERE for more information.  Parents and students (12+) are invited to participate in this class for $39.00 and free to on-line Health Students.  We need a minimum of 10 people to have the evening class. Trainers from  Divas In Defense will be educating and empowering our students and parents.

What All Families Need to Know About Substance Abuse Prevention: Studies show that kids who start using drugs or alcohol before there mid 20's are 26% to 47% more likely to become addicted.  The Walton PTSA strongly encourages you to attend, What All Families Need to Know About Substance Abuse Prevention Forum and Information Fair, October 24th, 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. in the Walton Theater.  Learn practical actions you can take through fact based discussion and real-life stories. A distinguished panel of speakers will provide critical information families and students need to know to avoid addiction and substance abuse.  For more information Click HERE

Preparing for Georgia Driving Permit Exam: October 25th at 6:30 p.m.,The Milton Library is hosting an interactive session for families and their teens who are preparing for the Georgia Driving Permit Exam.  Fulton County Police Department will be the presenters for the evening as they share pertinent information about the exam and preparing our teens to be safe drivers. Walton High School Charter Renewal Approved by Parents and Faculty:   Thank you to all parents who came out to vote for the Charter Renewal Petition.  The petition was approved by an overwhelming majority of both parents and faculty.  The documents are available for further review on the Walton website.

Legislative and Advocacy
ESSA Implementation:  Georgia's state plan to implement ESSA was submitted to the U.S. Department of Education on September 18th.  As reported by various news outlets, the Governor requested changes to the plan that the Superintendent did not make. The two major areas of disagreement are testing/accountability for grades K-2 and changes made to the CCRPI. This discussion will continue at the State Board Retreat in October.
Clubs and Organizations
Military Night RED, WHITE & BLUE on October 20th:  Principal's Leadership Committee is raising funds to support K9S FOR WARRIORS, a non-profit organization that provide service dogs to military veterans suffering from PTSD.   T-shirts will be on sale outside the dining hall during lunch this week.  Get yours early and wear it Friday to the Walton vs. Lassiter game!

Join our undefeated Varsity Volleyball team in going GOLD for childhood cancer research!  Come to the Gold-Out Volleyball game benefiting the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 5:30 pm.  Wear your yellow t-shirt and bring your extra change to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research! You can buy your yellow t-shirt from The Walton Rally Club outside the dining hall on Tuesday, October 17th for $10.00. All proceeds go to The Rally Foundation.    Every school day 46 kids are diagnosed with cancer. Kids get different cancers than adults, so different research and treatments are required. Rally Foundation exists to fund the best research to find better treatments with fewer side effects, and ultimately to find cures. To learn more about Rally click HERE

Letter Jacket: Fittings will be held Thursday October 26th in the Football Fieldhouse, 3:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Basketball Varsity Cheer Tryouts:  There will be a tryout for any girls interested in cheering varsity basketball this season. You must be an eligible junior or senior to try out.  If you are interested, please stop by Ms. Manheim's room, 305, for more information. The tryouts will be held Monday and Tuesday, October 22nd and 23rd.

Walton Drama Proudly Presents "Pippin": Tickets are on sale! Show dates and times are: Thursday, October 26th at 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 27th at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, October 28th at 2:00 p.m. (Walton Students can use their 4.0 pass and picture ID to get in for FREE), Saturday, October 28th at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets are $15 for reserved seats and $10 for general admission and can be purchased at the door or online with this link: Tickets for "Pippin".  All shows will be in the Walton Theater.  We hope to see you there!
