Dear Neighbor,
There is a lot to look forward to in the months and weeks ahead. The days are getting longer, spring is getting closer and thousands of Mainers will soon be getting an extra payday through
tax returns or
unclaimed property filings.
Many people will be receiving significant tax refunds this year, including refunds through the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit. To receive your money, file your taxes on or before the deadline of Tuesday, April 19.
There are many resources available to help Mainers file their taxes for free. Households with a combined annual income of $58,000 or less may qualify for free tax filing through
CA$H Maine (see if you qualify by
clicking here). If your adjusted gross income is $73,000 or less, you qualify for
Free File on the IRS website.
You may also have money headed your way if you take a moment to search for yourself, your business or your family on Maine's
unclaimed property list. The Treasurer's Office is currently holding over $291 million in Mainers' unclaimed property, and people can easily search the list and claim any property that is rightfully theirs.
Click here to get started, or call the Treasurer’s Office’s unclaimed property hotline at 624-7470 during normal business hours.
Like families across the country, I know that many of us here in Bath are feeling a financial pinch due to global instability and rising energy prices. I hope that these extra funds will bring you and your loved ones some much-needed relief.
As I continue to work hard in the Maine House for the people of House District 52, please feel welcome to reach out to me. I am here to serve you, whether that means helping you navigate services, connecting you with state agencies or hearing your ideas about our work in the Legislature.
