Senerchia Strong Raises $5K for WPRP
Golf was Anthony Senerchia's passion, but his true joy came from being a devoted husband, father, and cherished friend. Anthony bravely fought a rare form of adenoid cancer for over a decade, inspiring everyone who had the honor of knowing him. He visited other cancer patients in the hospital when he wasn't, counseled loved ones struggling with the emotional toll of supporting someone with cancer, and faced each day of his own battle with the same qualities he showed throughout his life: hard work, sacrifice, wit, charm, positivity, and his life-of-the-party, positive spirit.
|
Oh, Anthony is missed dearly, beyond words,
but Christ reminds us,
"love remains".
Anthony's love is exuded through all those he affected, especially his family.
In his honor, Anthony's 3 young adult children, (Carly, Anthony, and Michael) and his beautiful wife, Lisa, started an annual Senerchia Strong Golf Event to celebrate Anthony's life, friendships, and his enduring spirit!
| |
|
In perfect alignment with the generous Senerchia way, the family hosted this golf event with contests, raffles, and an auction, then donated all funds raised to WPRP, Christmas Without Cancer, and they even started a scholarship fund.
There was no doubt that Anthony's inspiring spirit would shine through, and this event would be a giant success!
Widowed Parent Relief Project couldn't be more honored to accept this generous donation in honor of such a tremendous man, husband, and dad.

Our Male Family Friends Come Through
Giving our parents the opportunity to have time to themselves, our male family friends orchestrated a day at Oak Ridge Children's Museum! It was a hit all around! Thank you, guys!

It meant the world to our Equine Therapy host, Sarah Brede, when A WPRP mom returned thanks with a thoughtful card and drawing from her son.
"...My boys loved your horses and especially getting to ride them (I did too!) We appreciate your generosity and love shown through this event, bringing joy in the midst of our grieving....
'Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess for He who promised is faithful.' Hebrews 10:23"

Brings Joy

Research shows one of the most helpful things for a widowed parent is to be able to talk to other widowed parents.
Our social events are intended to build community amongst each other: For children to play with other children whose family looks like theirs. For parents to be able to "just be" without the anxiety of too many questions from strangers who don't understand. For the opportunity to put a face to the name in the GroupMe chat and do something fun together...recalling together they still have a right to be happy.

A Heartfelt Thanks to Farragut High School Student Government Association!
We are deeply thankful to the incredible students and families of Farragut High School’s Student Government Association for their thoughtfulness and generosity. Their Halloween Costume Drive allowed our widowed families to experience a joyful Halloween— Holidays can be especially challenging while grieving!
The SGA reached out to us with the idea of a costume drive. They organized and managed the whole process of discovering what costumes kids wanted and fulfilling those wishes. They wanted to ensure the overwhelming task of finding and buying costumes wouldn't prevent the children from experiencing a fun time when they needed it most! This support made it possible for the family to enjoy the holiday with smiles and laughter!

Family Friend, Melissa Marti, shares her experiences of reality for the multiple families she has walked alongside and how WPRP helps them to find comfort, community, and receive a helping hand.
"Imagine being a mom of 3 young children and suddenly having to manage everything by yourself. Through your grief. Through your children’s grief. School commitments don’t stop. Sports continue. Your friends continue to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries with their husbands. You’ve gone from financial security to trying to figure out how to make ends meet. All of your hopes and dreams for the future are now gone.
This is the scenario we see many widowed parents face as they try to move forward from such a loss.
I am proud to be a part of WPRP. I serve as a Family Friend and have learned firsthand what a widowed parent goes through.
It was a joy to make myself available and to proactively offer support. From eating together, to moving furniture, to providing meals, and joining family gatherings, we became inextricably linked."
