Good Afternoon  ,

For the past 8 months or so, I've been working with Annette Bau. She's been coaching me on three aspects of improving my business:
  • My inner game (adjusting my mindset for success),
  • My game plan (business strategy), and
  • My outer game (connecting with and selling to the right clients).
One of Annette's favorite techniques for aligning the mind for success is "focused breathing". Since all of her material is copyrighted and part of a paid program, it would be illegal and improper of me to share it here.

Recently I found this article from  Minda Zetlin. on the topic of focused breathing. So Minda's back with us this week discussing this simple breathing technique to calm and focus the mind. She's a regular contributor to Inc. magazine, and has also graced my articles quite regularly.

The technique involves breathing in for a count (she recommends 4) and out for a longer count (she recommends 6). She elaborates a bit on the physiological reasoning for this and discusses some variations.

As I practice it, I:

  • Breathe in for a count of 5, imagining the things I want most in life and business,
  • Hold my breath for a count of 6, absorbing these good things, and
  • Exhale for 10, emptying my mind of negative thoughts or emotions.
  • Repeat 3 or 4 times.
I do this at several stages in my meditation routine after I wake up and before i go to bed. It can also be a great preparation for challenging tasks, or handling potentially stressful situations.

The point is that the process is measured. It counters any tendency for rapid or shallow breathing, a common reaction to stress.

Enjoy  Minda's brief exploration of this technique.

Connect with Your Best  Coaching Prospects!

How's business for you?

Suppose you had more conversations with more people who need and want  your services...AND can pay for them?

When you join Smart Money Network's  Business Accelerator Platform, we:
  • Edit your LinkedIn Profile Page so it attracts the people you want to attract.
(What pain do you eliminate for your clients? If your LinkedIn profile describes how you make your clients' lives better, it's rare! Most describe the merchant's qualifications, and say little about what he/she does to solve clients' problems.)
  • Search LinkedIn's hundreds of millions of members for the few thousand who match your ideal client profile (you tell us who that best prospect is).

(Even if you can find these people manually, It will take hours away from your work with the clients you're already serving.)

  • Invite about 100 of these best prospects every day to connect with you on LinkedIn.
  • Send a welcome message to those who accept your invitation and connect. (Typically up to 30%. Currently 26% of my invitees are connecting.)
  • Deliver something of value to them from you.
  • Begin a "drip campaign" of carefully timed messages, continuing to offer value. These messages give...give...give...and then ask. No pitches!

All of these messages come from you personally. We want and expect your input in developing them...unless you want us to just do it. You can follow the threads and adjust your messages whenever you like.

You can take over the exchange manually whenever you see an opportunity you want to "ripen".

About John

Throughout a career spanning over 45 years my management style has been one of building teams to bring several competent people together to focus on a common objective. I noted early in my career that, in most organizations, there is an enormous amount of time, energy, and effort wasted by people working at cross purposes.

As I transition to life in the Argentine outback, my focus shifts from coaching to helping other business coaches and advisers get their message out to their prospective clients. With my first-hand knowledge of the benefits of effective business coaching, I am uniquely qualified to help business advisers of all stripes convey their message.
