Become a Front Desk Volunteer

Do you enjoy meeting new people, being in beautiful spaces, and having a really good reason to spend time around great art? Then you might be a perfect fit for our Front Desk Volunteer team at the Schneider Museum of Art.

Our front desk volunteers are the friendly faces who welcome visitors, answer questions, and help everyone feel at home the moment they walk in. You’ll also get behind-the-scenes peeks at museum life and the chance to spend time in the galleries each week, because honestly, hanging out with art is good for your health (and science agrees).

Shifts are just two hours, Tuesday through Friday, between 10 am and 4 pm, making it easy to fit volunteering into your week without taking over your life.

No art degree required. All we ask is that you enjoy connecting with people of all ages, are curious by nature, and are happy to learn and share what you discover along the way. In return, you’ll be part of a creative and welcoming community, helping others experience the beauty, ideas, and joy that live inside our walls.

Be one of the humans who make the museum feel like home.

FREE, and open to the public

Join us at the Schneider Museum of Art for the opening reception of our Winter 2026 exhibition, Pursuit of Happiness, a vibrant group show featuring Southern Oregon University’s Creative Arts faculty and staff. Enjoy complimentary wine generously sponsored by Wooldridge Creek Winery and light hors d’oeuvres as you explore new work, connect with artists, and celebrate the launch of this timely and thought-provoking exhibition. The reception is free and open to the public.

Inspired by SOU’s Campus Theme and the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Pursuit of Happiness invites reflection on what it means to live well, then and now. Through artwork and artist statements, participating faculty and staff respond to questions about joy, justice, pleasure, and fulfillment in contemporary life, offering creative and critical perspectives on one of America’s most enduring ideals. We hope you will join us for an evening of art, conversation, and community.

Invite you friends!
