Light of Asia
Stage 2

  • Session V - 27th March 2021
Relationship of anger and loving kindness with the human mind.

  • Session VI - 24th April 2021
How delusion and wisdom relate to our lives.

Following requests from many who participated in our previous series focusing on ‘aspects of the mind’ we are very pleased to announce that we are continuing with our second series of talks over the course of 10 months once a month. Sessions such as these are being conducted by the venerable monks online in different English speaking countries around the world and have come to be a enormous source of insight and comfort for many.

These sessions will be offered free of charge, with a suggested donation of £10.00 per month.

A series of discussions with the Venerable Andandasiri Thero and the Venerable Sundanda Thero on the different aspects of the human mind from the perspective of universal truth. Understanding of the human mind and practical advice on how to manage the mind significantly enhances our sense of happiness and freedom in life. This teaching is not religious, but rather relates to universal truth from a particular perspective.

What participants say:

"It has helped me to make sense of things, and to see my life and my mental patterns more clearly - and definitely those of others! I am absolutely fascinated by the mind, so this is extremely helpful." ED

“I have absolutely loved the talks … I found the presence and sounds of the monks voices so soothing and calming. After the last session and asking my question regarding family and karma, the response had a profound effect on me. My mind had cleared and the remainder of the evening was spent smiling.” HR

“Since the talks, I have become more aware of what I am attaching my thoughts to, noticing what is interrupting my peace.” GE

“I have found the discussions very enriching and helpful. I have read a lot about the matters discussed, but never had a chance to participate in an active discussion like these.I have even shared some of these stories with my 12 years old daughter who has shown interest and will to understand the meaning!” MV
AIUK New Courses
As part of Level 1 and Level 2 Diploma courses, the Ayurveda Institute invites over 100 people each year to take part in advanced training clinics and shadow consultations as patients. Those chosen from the enormous response we receive to the call are able to benefit from highly individualised sessions, bespoke advice on diet and lifestyle, and lots of useful tips on recipes, remedies and hacks to bring them back to balance. All this plus their individual prescription all free!

In March and April both level 1 and level 2 students take part in training clinics, advanced training clinics, observe shadow consultations, and much more. This is just 4 of the many messages we received from our volunteers who took part so far:

"Thank you so much for ... It was such an inspiring day. Everyone was so kind and I'm sure they will all be amazing Ayurvedic practitioners."

"Thank you so much. I really enjoyed the day and got a lot out of it."

"Thank you all. I am very grateful for this opportunity. I feel very optimistic about the use of food, the herbs and the medicines."

"Thank you for inviting me, I am interested in doing an Ayurvedic course so this gave me good insight."

There will be more to come!
If you registered your interest in taking part but we weren't able to call you for this round, we have your details and will contact you for more clinics in the near future.
Herb of the Month
Gotukola (Centella)
Probably no single plant has been as extolled and revered for its therapeutic and cosmetic virtues as gotu kola. It no doubt deserves the nickname ‘miracle herb’ of oriental medicine. According to historical records, natives of Sri Lanka were the first to use gotu kola for its medicinal properties. They noticed that gotu kola leaves were a favourite food of the elephant, which is renowned for its longevity. Even in Chinese medicine, it is regarded as the primary herb for promoting longevity and it is said that the legendary healer Li Ching Yun lived for 256 years as a result of drinking gotu kola tea.

The most widely known uses of this plant are for promoting longevity and preserving youth and increasing mental acuity, although it is said to be effective for a wide range of medical conditions. Try this refreshing Sri Lankan salad to get a dose of Gotukola ...
