Welcome to all my new subscribers and my 5200 loyal readers who have been with me for the past 20 years.

Want to improve your health instantly with no gym and no diet?  Cut back on the “hassler” in your life.

Greetings!

Here’s a quick test – how many times have you enquired of someone this week “Busy?”. Closely followed by the inevitable “Tired?”.

We are a nation of busy, tired people and it’s about as interesting as watching a documentary on the history of beige.

A whole wellness industry has sprung up around sleep, diet and energy when the issue will not be relieved by chia seeds and a fitness tracker.

The thing the influencers and green goddesses have never factored in is that family, friends and colleagues can be as toxic as junk food, smoking and slam-dunking shots.

Researchers from the US discovered almost one in three of us have a hassler in our close social circle and this can mean more than just a pain in the neck or other part of the anatomy.

They found that people who were close to a “hassler” showed a faster pace of ageing and raised biological age – a measure of the health of your cells. This is different from chronological age, which is simply the number of years you’ve been alive.

Jeann Paul Satre knew that folk played havoc with health when he said “Hell is other people” and if you have ever groaned when a certain person’s name pops up on your mobile you will know too well how quickly the will to live dips.

High blood pressure, inflammation and even diabetes, research shows, is affected by nags, drags and the needy who have made it a life’s work to be a burden to others.

Here’s a quick test to see if you and your health are at risk because of the needs of others:

  • You feel drained after being with them
  • You and your needs are not seen or heard
  • It’s like you don’t exist
  • You are made to feel the bully if you are not rescuing or bailing out the hassler.
  • You can’t seem to the say the right things no matter how they come at it.

Boundaries – the key to health, wealth and empowerment

Our time and energy need to be seen as limited and precious commodities. Our peace must be fiercely protected in order for us to function and flourish.

People with strong boundaries know:

  • How to limit time with those who take more than they give
  • Charge well for what they do
  • Protect their energy and don’t over commit
  • Own their own sense of self – no proving they are the “good guy”
  • Know when enough is enough

What If It’s You ?

If you are reading this then you have some level of self-awareness; you are interested in developing yourself, perhaps via coaching. Those without this sense of self cause stress and anxiety to others - and none of us want that.

I must confess though that I can be that “hassler” when dealing with my adult children who don’t seem to know how to use a laundry basket without the user’s manual being downloaded.

How we “hassle” talk to ourselves and to others might mean we need to consider kind communication.

Or it could mean that when we’re overbearing it’s because we are sooo over bearing the loads of others.

Anyway, I reason, I’m not hassling; I’m just helping others achieve things they never planned to do in the first place and call it coaching 😊
