A CELL WITH UNTAPPED POWER

POWER AND AUTHORITY are highly sought after prizes In the world of work and play. If you follow what people are reading, what gets posted on
LinkedIn, and what the current business seminars offer, it often has something to do with taking charge of relationships, uploading your confidence, and closing the deal. I mean after all, our current president is known in part for his book,
The Art of the Deal.
Lucky for me ( yep, that's saracasm... I don't believe in luck), my world has friendly and not-so friendly reminders that frequently bump me up close to reality-- that is, a regular tutorial 101 to get me to see just where the real power lies.
What we think?
- We want so deeply to control our life and death. Remember Henley's Invictus?, "I am the captain of my soul". And yet, just this week, I have been exposed to people, who against our deeper hopes died, and in one particular case in spite of the Herculean efforts to revive him. (Strike 1)
- We suppose we have power over others and it shows itself from the highest levels of business to the lowest sectors of our society. Even Pilate, that hapless Roman govenor, thought he could wield his authority over Jesus, waving before him life and death. Jesus scolded him by saying, "you would have no authority, had not my Father allotted it to you." (John 19:10) (Strike 2)
- We tell ourselves we have the power over our circumstances, but in case you missed it, those tornados in Kansas and Oklahoma, have left people homeless, possession less, and too often lifeless. And it only took mere seconds. My house may sink into the ground, my body may fail me tomorrow, and the mate that I thought would share my autumn years passes into eternity before I was ever ready. ( Strike 3)
What we do have is opportunity and influence. God has called us to himself and in Jesus we have an opportunity to tell the world His story, to live his selfless example, and to use the one commodity we can freely wield-- our influence to make a relationship with the Risen Savior an attractive and logical choice. "Come now, and let us reason together..." Isaiah 1:18
The "real game" is before us... Let's not "Strike-out"
Blessings to your house!

NEWS BULLETIN: THE BIBLE CHANGES LIVES. This week join us as we dive into John 15.
On Friday, the men will converge on Cousins and continue to study the
framework of our faith. There is a reason why the Apostle Paul, when facing his last days upon the earth asked for those things that mattered most: The Scriptures, good friends, and good books. In our quest to live, shouldn't we desire the same?
On The Lord's Day, We will worship and open the Scriptures to
Genesis 31. AWANA plays here: Have you checked out the intensity of a new game we're playing... something between kick-ball and dodge-ball. It's radical...
Books you should read:
Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus by Nabeel Qureshi: I'm working through this one with our High school Bible class.
More than a Carpener by Josh McDowell: This is the subject of our AWANA Trek group study.
Know What you believe, by Paul Little
