Happy New Year! We survived the big chill!
Partial Trail Closure this weekend - Calforex Cup: Sat Jan 25 & Sun, Jan 26
Please note that the trails around the lodge and biathlon range will be closed for the Calforex Cup on Sat 25th and Sun 26th - please refer to the map for detail. For this weekend, recreational skiers and snowshoers are advised to use the north trails and park on the service road off Hwy 40. Spectators are welcome for the races - 11am start both days. Thank you! All other trail conditions here.
Membership Matters!
As a not-for-profit club, it is critical that all trail users hold valid memberships or day passes. Fees help cover fuel for grooming activities, insurance premiums, and other key operating expenses. If you have not purchased your 2019-2020 annual membership yet, you can now grab it in just a couple of clicks via our website. Same with day passes and rentals. And with potentially 10 weeks of skiing remaining, that's just $13 / week or $3.60 / week for the remainder of the year! Awesome value for your fitness dollar!
Banff Mountain Film Festival
A HUGE thank you to all WNSC members who braved brutal conditions to come out to support the 22nd annual Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour. Check out this fun example of what was shown! We were 100% sold out for Sat 11th and Sun 12th nights, and 93% sold out for Mon 13th Jan. An event report and full list of films shown is available here. And kudos to WNSC member & ski instructor Max Bloomfield for skiing to GPRC on Saturday night!! Looks like we're going to have to set up a ski rack next year!!
WNSC Snow Patrol!
Not too many nordic clubs can boast having these four legged beauties as part of their trail crew! Over the last couple of weeks several WNSC members have reported encountering the (non aggressive) resident lynx family on the North and Forest trails. If you do see them, please be respectful , give them space, and by all means share your photos with us on social media! How lucky are we??
WNSC Volunteers Rock!
We are greatly indebted to our volunteers who stepped up and offered their time to help generate funds for WNSC at the New Year casino shifts and BCMFF. Also to those who humbly o pen and close the lodge doors, stoke the fire, shovel the entry and deck, clear the parking lot, pack and track. It was especially a big job at the end of last week with the amount of snow and relative cold. Also thanks to the many people who are fully engaged to make the program elements at WNSC so successful. And finally, thanks in advance to the newbie and returning Calforex Cup volunteers too! As of January 1, 2020 we are asking all volunteers to track their hours so that we can use this data when applying for municipal, provincial and federal grants. See our volunteer page for full details and to request a tracking sheet if you are a regular volunteer. Or if you are helping out at the lodge, there will be a sheet posted to capture "spontaneous" volunteer hours. Towards the end of the year we will hold a competition to guess how many cumulative hours we invested in 2020!
Upcoming Events - 2020

We are hoping to see members of all ages and abilities out at the loppet to make it a fun and inclusive community event! Multi Use Trail News
Our multi use trails saw a lot of activity through December when snow conditions were marginal on the ski trails. WNSC is encouraged by the amount of activity we are seeing on the trails and recognize the growing interest in snowshoeing for all ages and abilities. Dogs ARE permitted on the NORTH multi use trails while you are snowshoeing, back county skiing or fat biking (sorry no walking). As always, we ask that multi use trail users yield to skiers when crossing dedicated ski trails and try to avoid damaging the XC track set where possible. Thanks in advance for you for your cooperation. Feedback welcome from all trail users.
