Welcome to our Club E-Newsletter!
Hello Snow! - Welcome to Grande Prairie!!
2019-2020 Season Opener
Come and see what WNSC is all about and meet some local, like minded winter enthusiasts! Everyone is welcome this coming Sunday, November 17th at the Steve Cooper (main) lodge. The Fall General Meeting will run from 12 noon - 1:00pm. This will be followed by Season Opener activities from 1:00pm - 3:00pm including a wax demo, Trailforks App info session, kids games, a guided snowshoe trek, and opportunity to provide feedback on the future direction of the Club. BMFF tickets and memberships (cash or cheque) will also be available. Full details here
Grooming has commenced!
Thanks to the Nov 9th-10th heavy snowfall, our trusty groomers were able to pack and lay a 5km classic track in the Forest trails, also on Poplar, and the Competition trails south of the lodge. Despite the initial snow volume, conditions are still considered early season and will be vulnerable to changes in temperature. Stay tuned to our website and social media for official opening dates for the lodge, rentals and trail lights. They are all all weather condition dependant. Because we know that your recreation time is precious, we endeavour to keep you well informed on our trail grooming status seven days a week! Once we get a report from our grooming team, we post it simultaneously on our website and Facebook page so you know what to expect before you drive out. Or you can take a chance and check the grooming board just inside the main lodge front door.

Multi Use Trail News
Thanks to volunteer Trails Director, Matt Wild's "passion project", we now have brand new signs and a map of the north multi use trail (south version to follow shortly!). Our multi use trails were established during Winter 2018/2019 on a pilot basis for snowshoers, back country skiers and fat bikes seeking to access our fabulous trail network. And pet owners will be happy to hear that they can bring Fido on the NORTH multi use trails while you are snowshoeing, back county skiing or fat biking (sorry no walking). As always, we ask that multi use trail users yield to skiers when crossing dedicated ski trails and try to avoid damaging the XC track set where possible. Thanks in advance for you for your cooperation. Feedback welcome from all trail users.

Volunteers make the world go round!
Volunteers are the heart of Wapiti Nordic. Since the Fall, volunteers have organized trail races, put up trail signs, cleared brush, worked at the ski swap, groomed trails, cleared fallen trees, watched films at the BMFF, cleared snowshoe trail, developed a calendar of winter activities, monitored Zone 4, maintained equipment, answered questions on Facebook and our website and many other jobs including closing the lodge at night. There is an effort to keep annual membership costs low due to the volunteer spirit of the members. We appreciate all the efforts! And - we want to remind you of two major activities that are coming up. The Biathlon Team is hosting a Calforex Cup January 25 - 26th. It’s a great opportunity to watch some exciting racing and to help the club. Casinos are a huge fundraiser for the club and we generally are on the rotation every 3 years. We have a casino this year January 1 and 2nd. Please consider volunteering for either fundraiser. Email us if interested.
