Cats In My Yard

Have you noticed cats running around in your backyard or alley? They're all over the city lurking in the darkness, and reproducing at startling rates. There are resources available to concerned residents who want to curb their populations, and the  Cats in my Yard group has taken impressive strides toward getting these cats caught, neutered, and returned. Trapping, Neutering, and Returning (TNR), has been proven to be a successful method of cutting the feral cat population by more than half. Here are some numbers from 2014, most of the data is in the 1st Ward.  The organization has done a lot of excellent work, but it certainly comes at a cost. If you'd like to donate to keep them going, you can donate through Paypal at donate@catsinmyyard.com or click the link here. Our office is very excited to be partnering with this organization to get them the tools they need to reduce the feral cat population. We will also be educating our neighbors on how they can create cat traps of their own. For more information, or if you'd like to volunteer you can email Vanessa at  vanessa@catsinmyyard.com!

606 to open on 6/06

The Bloomingdale Trail project, or the 606 is scheduled to open June 6th, 2015

From the 606 Team:

And Opening Day will be one for the record books, with a series of joyful processions along the Bloomingdale Trail, a lively street festival on Humboldt Boulevard, and day-long family fun at The 606 access parks opening on 6/06 (Walsh, Churchill Field, Park 567 at Milwaukee/Leavitt and Julia de Burgos).

But we're going to need your help to make the Opening Day festivities reflect the community involvement that has defined this project since its beginnings a decade ago.

On Saturday, June 6th, be part of the festivities starting at 8 a.m.:
  • Join a pre-planned procession
  • Plan your own procession
  • Host an activity booth at the festival site
  • Volunteer with The 606 team
And on Sunday, June 7th, come back for a  community pancake breakfast at the western Trailhead (at Ridgeway) at 10 a.m.. All the opening weekend activities are free and open to the public.

Visit our website to learn more about the Opening Day celebrations, or jump right into the action by signing up to participate (en espanol).
