Ward 8 E-News

Emergency Preparedness Week takes place May 4-10. While this week provides an opportunity for residents to learn how to protect their families, property and belongings during an emergency, it also reminds us of how important it is to come together during extreme situations, like a disaster or an emergency. This year’s Emergency Preparedness Week theme for Mississauga is ‘You. We. Us.’.

The City of Mississauga’s sidewalk repair program works to provide you with accessible and even sidewalks so everyone can move around the city safely and easily.

City staff monitor, inspect and repair sidewalks throughout the year. They look for things like dips or uneven pavement.

If you see a sidewalk in need of maintenance or repairs, such as a sidewalk that is severely cracked, collecting standing water or is uneven, I encourage you to report it. You can call 311 or submit an online service request.

Once reported, the area is made safe with paint, cones or temporary asphalt ramping until more permanent repairs can be made.

Users of City-owned public EV charging stations in Mississauga will now be charged a $0.30/kWh user fee. The fee is based on the actual amount of energy that is used to charge the electric vehicle. Today, there are 30 City-owned public EV charging stations located in Mississauga, with more on the way throughout 2025.

User fees will enable the City to recover the costs of operating and maintaining electric vehicle (EV) charging stations while encouraging usage turn over to optimize charger availability for all.

In Mississauga, we all belong to one community. We want to create a city that doesn’t tolerate racism, discrimination or hate in any way.

Through the One Mississauga public awareness campaign, we are calling out the daily acts of racism and discrimination faced by many in our community. It’s meant to make people stop and think about the words they use, the actions they take and how they affect others. Our goal is to make our community a better place for everyone to live.

We can create a more welcoming Mississauga where we recognize and celebrate our differences and our shared values. When we focus on awareness, education and working together, we can have important conversations that help us come together as one community.
