Peel Regional Police, together with Mississauga bylaw officers, parking officers, Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services, and other partners, continue to enforce existing laws and regulations with zero tolerance at the Erin Mills Centre (commonly referred to as Ridgeway Plaza) at the south east corner of Ridgeway Drive and Eglinton Avenue in Ward 8. The enforcement blitzes are in response to ongoing large-scale gatherings that create a public nuisance and safety concerns for patrons of the plaza as well as the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Councillor Mahoney successfully enacted a motion along with Ward 10 Councillor Sue McFadden for an interim control bylaw for one-year to allow for a land use study of the properties that make up the plaza. The bylaw will prevent new businesses—including any new restaurants—from opening that may exacerbate the current problems there.

It’s getting darker earlier, which makes it harder to see on our roads. We remind all road users to stay extra cautious and alert this time of year, especially from evenings into the early morning. Whether you’re walking, cycling or driving, remember to pay attention to your surroundings and obey the rules of the road.

If you’re driving, be aware of the posted speed limit and watch for pedestrians and cyclists, especially when turning. To help increase your visibility, use designated crosswalks or crossrides to cross the road if you’re walking or cycling, and use lights and reflectors on your bike.

What do tires, paint cans, furniture, construction materials, yard waste and propane tanks have in common? They top the chart as the most frequently illegally dumped items across Mississauga – in places like parks, trails and green spaces.

Illegal dumping continues to be a serious issue. When someone puts waste materials on City or private property without the permission of the property owner, it is considered illegal dumping. It not only damages our natural environment but can be a risk to public safety. It also puts a financial strain on the City's resources due to the high costs of cleanup.

According to Debris and Anti-Littering By-Law 219-85, those caught illegally dumping on City property can face fines ranging from $500 to $100,000.

If you see garbage and debris left in a park, you can report it online or call 311 (905-615-4311 outside City limits).
